Oh! Thank you for sharing this tomato tasting with us, Robin! My tomatoes are just barely starting to ripen. I’ve always heard great things about Dr. Wyche’s Yellow. @@TheRightPearPlot Waltham is a good one. South Anna is a cross between seminole pumpkin and waltham butternut. It is more disease resistant. Stunning tomatoes! I was thinking about how carefully you handled them, like they were newborn puppies, and then you dropped one. 😉As my area is small and season is short, I've only grown two tomato varieties, one cherry with seeds from a store bought tomato, it's sweet and nice, and a determinate, little red riding hood. It's OK, I wish it had a richer taste. Oh, and then there is a mystery volunteer tomato which I'm not sure will be able to ripen in time. Guess I haven't found my favourite yet. There are so many varieties I'd like to try, I need a large greenhouse in my future home. 😅

Some really beautiful crops there! 🤩You have succeeded with so many things this year, despite pests and diseases. Count your wins, totally agree! Sorry about the botrytis. I've only first heard of it this summer as well. I've thought that might have happened to those who didn't clean their snips/secateurs, but it seems it can happen to anyone. But the cleaning most likely prevented you from spreading it throughout your garden. I've bought cucumbers seeds that are resistent to powdery mildew for next year. There is always hope for next season. Now I only hope those cucumbers are as tasty, because the ones I had for two years have been the best cucumbers I've ever had. Socrates has been prolific! It's muscling through powdery mildew and has minimal prickles to stab you when picking. I think it's best to eat at about 1" around, but is fine bigger. The skin is thinner so easy to eat and not waste those good nutrients. Don't think Socrates would pickle well. I did de-seed the Crystal Apple and tried pickling. Knock on wood, it's been a banner cuke year. I planted a succession of socrates because I had lost my cukes to the cuke beetle last year, and was hedging my bets.
