Here in Ontario, cucumbers, tomatoes & peppers are the most common greenhouse produce that is grown. But did you know that some of those greenhouses rely on other farmers to grow the seedlings? That is where we meet Jodi & Adrian Roelands on their family greenhouse farm. They grow those seedlings as well as full heads of lettuce that you might find in your grocery store. Come on in and see seeds being planted, lights than can mimic sunlight, insects that can replace a pesticides & more.
DINNER STARTS HERE 52 Farms in 52 Weeks!

Amazing! This is only a slice of what they do but amazing to see how plants are grown and the amount of exact science behind to ensure yields are at their maximum and that energy consumption is at an absolute minimum. Also glad to see Canadian companies being featured.

Modern agricultural glass greenhouses will be equipped with shading systems, ventilation systems, water air conditioning and cooling systems, planting systems, water and fertilizer systems, artificial lighting systems, and Internet of Things computer control systems. Therefore, the glass greenhouse can maximize the degree of mechanization and the reproducibility of agricultural products, so as to realize the factory agricultural planting mode.

Cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers are cultivated in the greenhouse, which not only guarantees the yield, but also greatly improves the quality.

Hey, I've had your lettuce and it's great! Nice to know who the producer is. Your greenhouse is so clean! I must say though that I am surprised that you have such high ceilings. Doesn't that waste a lot of heating for you?

@@pcjacobs615 60 USD per M2, with heating,ventilation system, and lights?
@pcjacobs615
@pcjacobs615 2 жыл бұрын
@@filipurkin4462 no, just the structure but wet walls are cheap, the fans are cheap as well, lights go for $120-150 EA for standard 1000w de fixtures. Irrigation system can be done for reasonably cheap if you aren't automating dosing (pumps still run on timers, you just have to manually fill and mix the Res with the nutes). Environmental control systems can be done for less than a couple of thousand per structure... Cannabis prices are plummeting, farms are going bankrupt all over. If you cant produce for CHEAP you won't make it. With the current market trends you have to produce for extremely cheap or you have to be a micro craft boutique operation with unique strains. The guys that will be pulling profit from greenhouse setups will be the ones with low budget hoop houses pulling tarps with minimal costs. There's way too much mid level flower around, growers are over producing 1000's of tons.

If I pay for a seedling I'd expect the rockwool cube to be alge free. Why the heck aren't these guys using covers and using rolling benches to water ? Also why the hell grow lettus in rockwool cubes ? That isn't very environmentally conscious as rockwool can't be recycle.. a simple Dwc raft system would be way cheaper and sustainable.

@@ugurceldir So how many people do you employ? How many families do you feed with paychecks? How many millions have you spend investing in that massive infrastructure. In all my life I was never employed by a poor person. Stuff your commie "slave" comment as nobody who freely sells their efforts for a paycheck is as slave but you are a slave to your communist failed ideology

@@mikewurlitzer5217 Nice point. I almost agree with all you told in your message. I disagree with the comunist part. If you are earnining a lot of money, perhaps you could pay a little more to the people you hire, In that way, they will be happy, the money keeps flowing and you get more customers because everybody has enough income to pay for what you produce. I don't want everything free for all, I just want to spread a little bit better the cake for every body. Cheers!
