It's really good to see Culadasa on KZbin again, sharing his wisdom.

The Pali Canon _does_ contain descriptions of something known as the 'Pit of the Void', which is a place of despair, depersonalization and inability to function from terror. I don't know if Culadasa is aware of this.

My Dark Night has lasted for 16 years. From my initiation onto the spiritual path in 2006 via a breakdown on psychedelics, to today (so I had no stability beforehand), I have suffered from unrelenting existential anguish of varying degrees of intensity nearly constantly from that time. In 2007 I got addicted to benzos and kundalini syndrome erupted at the same time, which horrendously complicated things, and for about four years, I did indeed indulge in the drama and so forth. But I really decreased my use of benzos a decade ago. Nothing explains the last ten years of unrelenting anguish.

No, this is more of an ongoing thing as a result of a process.

The dukkha nanas can't be avoided. It does happen to everyone because they're part of the dissolution process of the ego as one progresses towards stream-entry.
