It is a serious guilty pleasure! I didn't know anything about it & thought I'd start playing after work one night on my Xbox 360. I enjoyed it for numerous reasons & couldn't stop playing it, finishing it all in one evening, I loved it as cheezy as it clearly is! Loved your take on it, quite enjoyable!

It is such a weird little treat of a game, the guiltiest of pleasures! My first experience with it was much the same, had it installed on Steam forever and after struggling to get it working, I blew through it in a single sitting, which is how I knew I needed to come back to it for a video at some point. Really glad you enjoyed it!

Lucky, being Canadian I only get to have fun with guns in VR and at the range on the rare trip down south. It was so hard to find a good H&K slap animation to use there, which is why I just ended up having to do it myself.

I had heard as much elsewhere, but I could never find a proper source for where he said that, so I only alluded to it in the video. That said, I really love the idea of him just giggling away at some of those stealth kills, so I want to believe it's true.

Dang shame this Rogue Warrior game became the mess it ended up releasing as. It originally was going to be an actual tactical military game made by the devs who made all the old Spec Ops games and Shadow Ops Red Mercury. Then Bethesda scrubbed everything and gave it to the branch of Rebellion left over from CORE Design, the devs who made the original Tomb Raider games, to rush out the door. This and Shellshock 2 deserved better. Sucks no one else tried to make games based off of Marcinko or his books. I've read a few and I enjoyed them.

Really is a pity things ended up as they did, I remembered being excited for this game heading up to release. I cover the development history in the latter half of the video, and it's clear there really was potential here. At the very least Zombie Studios (the original dev you mentioned) did get to use that unique MP map generation concept of they came up with for this game in their own title, Special Forces Team X, though sadly that game is dead as well.

I refuse to play this game, but I want to let you know on my theory as to why in the late-2010s and 2020s, this game became an ironic cult classic: One of the reasons the game is so despised by those who consider it so-bad-it's-bad is because of the writing: It's an overblown power fantasy with a script so foul-mouthed that it's either the funniest shit ever or more annoying than hardcore. However, as the internet speeds increased, people learnt that not only was the guy the game was about, Richard Marcinko, a-okay with it, but this was somewhat accurate how he was and how he writes in reality. That's why the game has a dedicated so-bad-it's-good following: The idea that this is what the person the game is about is like in real life. The concept that the real guy is a ridiculous, egotistical tool with the vocabulary of a dump truck and that the game is ultimately depicting it somewhat faithfully has ultimately lead it to become a cult favourite among certain people, and though I'll happily stay away... I'm not at all surprised, either.

Do Alekhine's gun next. It's a Hitman style stealth game set in the cold war with a very "From Russia with Love" vibe. It has awful voice acting, is buggy as hell and artificial difficulty, but it's a stealth game set in the cold war. Its pretty much the only game that does that.
