My personal favorite line from Sam is from Chaos Theory. There's an objective to bomb a crashed American jet but there's an optional objective to drag the unconscious pilots to safety before you do so. However, time is of the essence so Lambert urges you to blow it without dragging the pilots and if you start carrying them anyway, Lambert starts rushing you. If you ignore him and grab the second pilot, Lambert tells him "You don't exist, Fisher. You can't get a medal for this." And Fisher simply responds with "Medals won't help me sleep at night."

I've always been hesitant to make a video on the Splinter Cell series, mainly because I didn't grow up with it. Now, it's because there's already an excellent video on it. This was expertly paced and presented with enough detail to satisfy without ever dragging; the humor's subtle but effective and served as a nice breather for a video that's nearly an hour. @nicolasdelvalle16924 жыл бұрын
@@brandonducks I totally disagree. the version of PS2 seems to me far superior to that of xbox (ignoring the graphics that was not such a great leap) and from the first level if I remember correctly, we could see the villain of the game while in xbox it seemed to be something totally alien to the rest of the game In addition many great things like the introduction of the trust system was omitted by a more permissive one (I miss the guy who hated Washington but was a protected witness and if you killed him or not affected the trust of both organizations). All this without mentioning the lack of the sound meter making the stealth less tactical in my experience. For me, without a doubt, the worst part was that each faction had its own level of confidence in xbox while in ps2 the trust meter is shared and if you gain confidence in one you lose confidence in the other. Sorry if i write someting wrong. Still learing English. Eddited:when i said Xbox version i'm talking about 360.

My proudest gaming achievement was a 100% ghost run of Chaos Theory. Not only did I not kill anyone. I didn't even interact with people at all. Apart from that single guy on top of the lighthouse, and the guy on the boat, but those were unavoidable. No windows/doors/light/etc broken, no tarps cut, no spy gadgets left behind, no shots fired (no bullet holes or cases), etc, etc. It was literally as close to a truly perfect ghost run as possible. I went in, left zero evidence that I was there, and left. And yes...the bath house still haunts my dreams, especially that room with the night vision soldiers.

Chaos Theory was something that changed my life forever. I have fully completed it about 15 times (I wish it was an overstatement) and loved every bit of it... except that mission in Japan where there is a steam room and a bomb and some guys with IR goggles chasing you. After playing the game I truly believed I was a spy and would sneak out of my house to go out in the dark lurking around the nearby area to eavesdrop on neighbors walking their dogs. I also went to look at a nearby military base with one of my BB guns for a recon. So much nostalgia. This game is basically the essence of my childhood...

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is not just a stealth game, it is THE stealth game. Reply to F4CU R3TR0: That would be fantastic, I want that, but will probably will never get. As of now, splinter cell is in a pit of despair, I know Sam Fisher is in R6 but that does not add to his character ark so that doesn’t count. ... wow, the equipment upgrade system in Blacklist makes absolutely zero sense whatsoever. Sam Fisher is an intelligence and field operative that works for a specialized group within the NSA, why would he not automatically be issued with the best state of the art equipment the NSA had to offer? Last time I checked being a spy or a field operative, even for blackops, probably doesn't pay well.... its a service job, you are technically in "the service" like the military or law enforcement, you get paid a salary that's honestly not very high. Its not like Hitman who works for an independent international assassination firm. That actually makes sense because, well.. he's a contractor... he works for himself by proxy of an agency that gives him contracts to fulfill, so all his gear and methodology is completely at his own financial disposal. That just doesn't make sense AT ALL for Sam Fisher.

Thankfully, because of this video, I checked out the Microsoft Store and found all 6 games 70% off and got them all for $35. I never completed Conviction or even played Blacklist, so I look forward to following your footsteps back through this series from start to finish. Still holding onto hope for a 7th and final, proper sendoff for ol’ Sam like you. Thanks for renewing my interest in this incredible series!

Hey man, great retrospective, and I know I'm pretty late, but in Splinter Cell: Blacklist you mention that to get the best stealth gear, you have to play through missions made for it without having it. I feel like that's a great thing, since you basically have to prove that you aren't incompetent without the gear. Someone has probably pointed this out before but it scratched my brain the wrong way and I thought I'd give my thoughts on it. Again, great video, I am enjoying binging your catalogue as I've just recently found out about you.

I repeat the game after I finished it the first time because that way I can start with the best stealth suit upgrades and I also like the design of that best stealth suit, the one with the feathers like design in it.

absolutely agree. I do not understand the criticism that you don't get the best stuff from the get go. that's like basically every game. nearly every action game has some sort of progression.

Pandora Tomorrow was my first splinter cell game and I think to this day it’s one of the best games ever made, and chaos theory was close. I remember when I played it I was young and the scene where the guy gets electrocuted in a bathtub still stuck with me to this day

And some 3 years after this video Ubisoft FINALLY says they're actually working on a new game lol Chaos Theory has always been my favorite. My brother and I spent countless hours in the co-op trying to climb on top of the rocket in the Silo mission to see if we could launch ourselves into orbit. And I spent probably twice as much time in the campaign playing mind games on all the bad guys 😂

It's not possible to describe how much these games influenced me as a kid and how it still affects me. Dying 20 times in a mission only to learn that all I needed was to keep calm and read the room. And then the whole process repeats for the next mission. Use your brain and get it done right the first time. Honorable mentions for the MGS series too

My Top 3 are: 3rd: the first Splinter Cell (because for what it was when released: new and awesome) 2nd: Black List ( I don`t care about the lore changes, it`s a fine game) 1st: Chaos Theory (no brainer)

solokom Interesting. Here’s my ranking: 1) Chaos Theory 2) Double Agent (OG Xbox version) 3) Pandora Tomorrow 4) Splinter Cell 1 5) Double Agent (Xbox 360 version/next gen version) 6) Splinter Cell Blacklist (I don’t like this game) 7) Splinter Cell Conviction (I loathe this damn game)
@RandomCommenterGuy6 жыл бұрын
ah man how can you have Blacklist so low?? I know it doesn't have Ironside but the Gameplay caters to both stealth and action. And the motion capture in that game is the best of any game out there.
@Jabsy1016 жыл бұрын
RandomCommenterGuy Don’t get me wrong, I shouldn’t say I did not like its gameplay, just the game as a whole left me almost bitter. To agree with Critical Nobody, the character is not Sam Fisher. They would have earned a lot of good will points from me if they had the balls to make this another Splinter Cell agent, but the shoehorn of this new voice actor with all different mannerisms really killed the character of Sam Fisher for me. A character I hold within my all time greats. Secondly, though the gameplay is fun, It’s blended mechanics of either stealth or action (or a mix of both) felt a bit too fake to me. The Sam Fisher in the first 4 games moved so realistically, he had tangible weight and his actions, though slower, felt more real. This “Sam Fisher” glides around the place. He’s a top of the line hitman and a ninja combined. The original Fisher felt like a highly skilled guys guy who was calculating his next move within his own limits. Blacklist Fisher moves as if fate is clearing the area for him. The mechanics are just too off for my personal taste. Some say the faster more dynamic movement in Blacklist are just modern approaches to what gamers could expect to play like, but now that Blacklist has been out for years, it really does feel more artificial compared to the weightier more deliberate movements/patterns of the Ironside Splinter Cell games (Minus Conviction which is why I loathe that game). Conviction made Sam into Jason Bourne/Ethan Hunt who mostly sneaks around. I firmly believe that action elements should be the last spectrum of play styles developed for a Splinter Cell, even if it means losing Blacklist fans. If you try to cater to all playing demographics for a game, than not one of those systems is great. Since Splinter Cell is for stealth espionage, I say leave the action for Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six. I’d take the gameplay mechanics and pace of the missions (include direct combat mechanics) in the first 4 Splinter Cell games over a similar design than that of Blacklist. Any day.
@RandomCommenterGuy6 жыл бұрын
All great points. I can't argue any of them. I understand you preferring the calculated movements of the first 4. I did too. As a high energy kid, it strangely taught me patience and a different way to play video games. My first game I ever beat by myself was the first splinter cell so the old splinter cells will always be special to me and the old mechanics. But we all know things can't stay the same. They adapt or die so splinter cell had to evolve. I loved the Bourne movies and the newer splinter cells did emulate that. So for me, I was totally fine with Ubisoft going in that direction. I know man, I'm an OG splinter fan like yourself who played them back in the day. But i can't deny how fun the "ninja" gameplay is to play and execute when done correctly. Thats why I'm happy that they have both options cause I like them both. I know that because of this none of these options will be perfect but it's a compromise we'll have to endure to keep splinter cell alive. I think Blacklist did a good job of letting you choose what Splinter Cell you wanted to be. One that kept action as a last resort or made it the main approach. I understand you saying the movements felt artificial but for me it just made me feel like a master martial artist which i'm ok with. Ubisoft doesn't have an easy job. To meet everyone's preference is impossible. I'm grateful for the old games and talking to people like you about how awesome they were. Also, I'm having a blast with the new ones. I'm excited for the future. Each Splinter cell game has been unique and different from the others in its own way and I don't expect anything less from the new one thats coming. And when it comes out we can have another discussion on how well it lived up to the Splinter Cell name.

Saw the community post, I wanted to say this video was really well done and I enjoy coming back to rewatch it! Also, I'd like to see your opinion on the cut splinter cell levels that were found and playable like Severonickel and the XBOX version of Nuclear Power Plant that are both playable on XEMU, which is an emulator for the original xbox. (Although, the emulation isn't very accurate) Turns out that there was supposed to be much more story to NPP from cut levels like Severonickel (Shortened to Kola Cell), Mining Town (Not found yet), and Shipyard (Shortened to the Vselka DLC missions) than when you initially covered it in your PS2 versions review which is why the story didn't make sense initially when doing the extraction.

Having a new splintercell game with the mechanics/movements of chaos theory would fit so well with improved graphics and other tweaks because Sam is so old it would make sense for his movements to be more heavy/grounded and slow since his age, like in chaos theory or double agent, and you would really need to rely on pure stealth, not flying across ledges like a comic ninja! Really hope they can bring back the feel of chaos theory and double agent!
