This band just understands the construction of music to tell a story. I've never heard a band so easily be able to write well constructed songs on a consistent basis. They seem to follow a more classical form of song structure instead of the modern verse chorus verse chorus.

I have been listening to Cult of Luna for years and love all of their work. I really appreciate their approach and the fact that they don't waste any minutes with filler. They have a knack for nailing the moody slower-interludes as well. I remember going on a mountainous drive and turning on "Echoes" from Salvation on the way down for a friend and I. I was already persuaded but that melding of moments really sunk it home for me.

The house at the start of the video is the same as the one used as an album cover by the band Anekdoten for the LP " Until All The Ghosts Have Gone". It is one of my favourite albums, I would recommend a listen. Towards the end of the song I could make out a little Anekdoten influence 👍

The first time I listened to the song, I was swept away by it: you guys did it again, even after 'Mariner' which is one of my fav records ever. I saw that a video was released for it later, and I finally found the time to play it today. That is stunning from every point od view. It brings a whole nee dimension to this fantastic song. Could you try to explain your interpretation of the song and the video? Would be cool to hear your thoughts!
@DiveTheseClips4 жыл бұрын
@@Thadnill I am no philosopher, but I have a theory about what's going on in the video. It's pretty simple on the first glance - the old guy is walking through his old house (where he presumably has spent a significant portion of his life) reminiscing about his past, when he was young and he was married. Now, from the tone of the ending of the video it seems likely that his wife has died, thus he's been left alone and is struggling with loneliness, which results in him killing himself by drowning. There might be a deeper meaning to it, but that would require someone with knowledge of philosophy (which I do not posess) to explain. But even then, the video had me in tears. Truely a work of art, the way this story unfolds. And the music fits it so well.
@blacklodge97943 жыл бұрын
@@DiveTheseClips I had a similar perspective, however I think the amulet and the two other men should be addressed. The amulet seems to be a token of release. He puts it around his wife's(?) neck right before she becomes young again. This tells me that she no longer needs to accompany him and sustain him. She is free because he let her go. The man in the night clothes is her unborn child, I think. Stillborn? The other son is mourning himself it appears, so I think that son committed suicide. All said and done, the man had a messed up life, and what we see is the younger version the entire time, perhaps as if to imply he's reminiscing. The old woman, assuming she's his wife, would imply he is in fact much older as well, and this whole experience he's having is the prelude to his death. Letting go. Trusting there is something else and perhaps he might see the ones he lost again.

Been a Lunatic since The Beyond was fresh and those first three albums will always be flawless to me. At the time Highway came out, I was so disappointed with it but over the years it has grown on me and I came to appreciate the Radiohead-isms of that release. The next two releases were okay but Mariner was the first album since Salvation that really impressed me. I hope this new album will be even better but we'll see.... this song was a good one but at 10 minutes, personally I'd prefer more variation and sounds (growls and cleans....) along the journey. Otherwise, I just wonder why the song wasn't done in half the time. But anyway, quality band. Let's here this new album!
