So one year since this record came out, and it's definitely one of my favorites. I the week that my cat died was when this was released and it was very fitting for how I was feeling, because she was basically my reason for sanity during a very dark part of my life that was ruled by alcohol and self loathing. When she died I was worried I wouldn't be able to control myself and start drinking again, and then this album came out with the title "A Dawn To Fear" and it just hit so perfectly. It helped me see that I was too afraid of living with almost nothing (or so I thought) and I decided to make a change in my life and start practicing being more grateful for the things I have and the relationships I have.

Here is a comprehensive-ish list of 2019 releases you should check out right now: Albums: Fallujah, Baroness, Torche, Monolord, the Ocean, Opeth, Misery Index, Vitriol, Pelican, Russian Circles, Redscale, Sacred Reich, Tool, Saint Vitus, Cult of Luna, Sunn O))), Destrage, Lucifer, Dreadnought, Inter Arma, Blackstar riders, Tau Cross, Insomnium, Amon Amarth, Alcest, Lacuna Coil, Rings of Saturn, Batushka, Coffins, Brutus, Cloudkicker, Big Business, Candlemass, Kadavar, Spirit Adrift Live albums: Windhand EP: High on Fire Singles: Pallbearer, Mastodon, High On Fire (thin lizzy cover) The important thing is that a lot of these are AOTY contenders! I'm so relieved these guys didn't get Julie Christmas again. I did not like Mariner because I don't like Julie Christmas's vocals. I was so hyped for these guys after Vertikal, which, holy shit is like over a decade ago now? Isis was always my favorite post metal band. I tried to get into many others. Cult of Luna was the only other one that came close to creating that type of atmosphere, the kind you kind of zone out to. Where by the end of a song, you're listening to something completely different than what it started as. Vertikal basically nailed that feeling for me. But then Mariner came out. I was not into it.
