You only realize what you have done when you name your cult something stupid and it flashes in bold letters as you return from a crusade.

Something I love about the game's art direction is that it didn't take the easy or lazy route to make the game dark or sinister by making everything gory to contrast the cute style, which would've just made it edgy and probably fairly cringey to look back on years later. Instead it uses atmosphere and keeps a consistent art style, even with the monsters or the thing that you're serving. It's the same art style, just a different direction (I think I'm using those words right, I'm not very good at words)

I named my cult "Utopia" and honestly I'm very content with it cause it's both a good and bad meaning

Everyone is happy! Should they be? Well, why don't we think on that another time, 'cause everyone's too happy to risk bringing them down with that.

"Utopia" and "Dystopia" Mean the same thing. Ones the idea, the other is the implementation 😂

All music in the video is from Cult of the Lamb. Thanks again to Devolver Digital for the review copy. More reviews still to come, including some I've been working on for ages now. No more distractions.

2:28 It reminds me of Midsommar. With the cult being all wholesome, happy-go-lucky, and supportive among each other while doing pretty messed up things.

I agree with the problem of leveling up quickly. I have only beaten 2 bishops and yet I already have all my doctrines AND all the village upgrades. Heck I almost have all the fleeces. I have a good time picking into the game in every nook and cranny but I feel like the leveling should've been slowed back a bit. I also wish the bishops punished you WAY more than what they do in game. Maybe effect the weather more and make your camp suffer. It feels like it needs a few small changes to make it greater than it already is.

5:24 Something that I like from Fuga: Melodies of steel. The idea that you can choose the difficulty based on the route you will be traversing.

I'm a year late to this video, but I agree, I love this game. The systems interlock nicely, River Boy's soundtrack is fantastic, the art style is lovely, and some of the writing is surprisingly interesting. Spoilers for one of the main antagonists ahead: Bishop Shamura fascinates me. Their domain is War and Knowledge, they are the Bishops' future-seer, and they're notably remorseful about their role in the backstory. Their mind is scattered thanks to a deep head injury that's cursed to never heal, leading them to enter fugue states where they repeat predictions, explanations and warnings, and Shamura's fully aware in their lucid moments that they're getting increasingly disconnected from reality, losing grasp on what's in the present and visions of the future. They *know* the Lamb will succeed in killing them, and is more using their remaining time to explain things than threaten or cower like their fellow Bishops. The One Who Waits, after you kill Shamura and his gloating is done, ends up feeling the same remorse over it that Shamura did for sealing him away, because unsurprisingly, War and Death were very close for a long time.

The game was short, i beat it in about 20 hours, however, I was not bored for a single second of it. As you said, I stayed up till 4am two nights in a row, wasting my weekend off on this game. I have dropped sixty dollar games after 5 hours before because they just aren't fun. Cult of the Lamb is the perfect opposite of that. Sure, it's very short, but you literally cannot put it down when you're playing. Remember to eat and drink some water, set some alarms, because this game makes time utterly disappear.

It’s so sad that 20 hours is “short” now. I will always prefer a “short” 20 hours that I love, than a bloated 80+ hours that loses me after the first 10

I kept descenters around for a bit until i couldnt wducate them. At which point they were properly sacrificed. The elderly were ascended, unless descenters. Anyone who died was pur into a compost pile to help with crops. Seems to work pretty well.

Ive thoroughly enjoyed the game so far and i cant wait to see what the rest of the game has, as well as what they add. Maybe a harder new game plus that gives you more cosmetic options for your base or something.

This game was going to be an instant-buy until I played the demo. Nice to see that there's actually a lot going on at the camp, because I took it off my wishlist after playing the demo and finding just another hack-and-slash roguelike

You literally missed half the game. The strength of the game isn't in it's rogue like mechanics, it's in the exquisite interplay between the base building and rogue like. Every aspect of play blends the two together. Upgrades are perfectly placed so your discovering new tech at perfect times. The bones from your crusades fuels your rituals, vital for your cult. The demo ends after your first death. It's weaving between the two games that makes it special.

Isaac is one of the best games out there in my opion but apart from that it takes some of the Isaac dungeon ideas into a more creative mixture, I still wouldn't recommend due to no replay value

This game kind of felt like a "jack of all trades, master of none", which really didn't feel fun to me. I'd rather play rimworld with the ideology DLC and mods for the "developping a cult" aspect and there's plenty more roguelikes/topdown hack'n slash games that scratch the same itch for combat but better, more polished and with more content. Overall, missed potential at best and gimmicky at worse.

Too bad this game played like shit on console, which was disappointing since Isaac, hades, and enter the gungeon are all prefect.
