Cult of the Lamb is Good Now (Relics of the Old Faith Review)

Cult of The Lamb was a fun time but prioritized style over substance. While beautiful, Dungeons felt bare bones and the amount of different moves you could do was pretty limited. I made a video on how even with updates Cult of The Lamb wouldn't be able to fix some of it's problems because it's design flaws were so interwoven into the game.
But sometimes being proven wrong is nice because for the most part Cult of the Lamb Relics of the Old faith does a fantastic job of writing it's own wrongs, adding more variety, attacks, and post ending content to the game.
Biomes now have area specific obstacles like Rivers and swinging Axes. The enemy and mini boss roster has been expanded substantially, as has the different armors, tarot cards, and follower types.
Even the bosses have new transformations after you beat the main quest.

Those exploding jellyfish and poison spitting spiders aren't new, they existed in the original release. If you look at the roadmap, they are planning another update on a similar scale to this one but with a focus on adding depth to cult management.

Letsa goooo The combat is mostly fixed now (still would like a bit more but eh) and that update might make it a little less barebones. I hope they give a bit more of a point to decorations, aswell as adding more doctrines, structures, and quests.

There's actually been a few buildings added that make it so that followers can take better care of themselves, namely the kitchen and the mortuary station. Those, paired with the janitor station and farms basically leave your cult.... a lot more capable of handling themselves.

That _was_ kind of the running gag that you had to stop by your base constantly because it seemed like if you were gone for even one dungeon you'd come back and something would be on fire. While balancing that is still part of the game I'm glad they leaned more in this direction.

Perma death mode is gonna fucking kill me inside… The cult side of the game is still lacking at the endgame but based on the roadmap, there will be an update coming in mid 2023 that would hopeful rectify that

I've recently watched a gameplay and within the first 10 minutes I knew this is a game I MUST get right away, which I did. I was almost done when this FREE dlc came out. So happy that I get to enjoy it even more! Great new additions especially in terms of buildings. Followers get to do basically everything besides burying. Recommending this 100%

This game was so fun to play for the first 10-15 hours but after I got the majority of the unlocks I realized how shallow the combat was, and each run required more and more preparation as I amassed more followers to make sure everything didn’t fall apart every time I left

What I also what to point out is that the game already made the company money . Their is literally no incentives to making updates , no point in making upgrades that will generate a monetary gain. Just the love for the people and honing in there craft .

It’s always about money, just because you can’t see how this is good for them doesn’t mean it’s not a good business move. Every time they update, the reviews get better, the game is revived with more advertising, more people jump back in, more issues solved that prevented people from playing the first time around, and it looks really good for them when they release free content because they get all sorts of positive feedback from fans.

I loved the esthetics etc on release but it had a ton of bugs and wasn't super deep. But with this update I can say they are 100% moving in the right direction. One day maybe they'll add more depth to followers or maybe even the next game they make will use all the information they gathered from here to make something amazing.

I think it's absolutely wild how many gamers I met that constantly complained this game wasn't binding of Isaac. I know this is a really hard concept for people to grasp but YOU ALREADY HAVE BINDING OF ISAAC. it exists, you can play it at anytime and half the people complaining about this game have 100s of hours in BOI! I don't like binding of Isaac. I found it difficult and punishing and not fun for me to play and that's fine because I have cult of the lamb. If I wanted to play BoI I'd play that. I don't get why gamers have to have every game being an ultra deep slog fest lol

A game is just like a sheep, its uncomfortable if it is too barebones, but also if it has too much content, just like a sheep and its wool, and I feel like cult of the lamb is getting close to that perfect spot, it’s not too complex as to be confusing, but with this recent update it has features that make it a lot more fun to play with, and adds much more replayability.

How does the game stand in terms of end game content?

Here's a few bulletpoints- -You get to update your doctrine fully after the endgame via new commandment stones to get new rituals you previously skipped over. -the crusade music is updated and once again River Boy (The OST composer) did not disappoint. -in terms of story you are now basically the new god of death. A mysical deity comes to you saying the bishops you killed haven't been put to rest, and you have to fight them again in order to do that -previously implied lore is given more clarity -there are easter-eggs in the game that help you tie up loose ends, such as Baal and Aym. -a new "purgatory" has been opened where you can crusade without time passing by.

In short there's a lot more to do and new things to experience that you didn't in the main game. I haven't beaten the post game yet but what I've experienced so far has been fun

Gameplay loop is the same, depth that was clearly needed added weeks after drop, no road map like promised. Asking for DLC money and votes? What a joke. Easily one of the worst rogue lites made. A shameless rip of basic gameplay of both civ and rogue lite. I beat this game 100% then the new update ruined it for me. Terrible gameplay loop and hours of work for the first NEW area added. Great dlc for those not expecting much
