It was the sagely Gorilla Monsoon that coined the nickname, "The Excellence of Execution" for Bret Hart, and while "The Hitman" is a wonderfully-concise descriptor for Hart, Monsoon's declaration is perhaps more fitting. Nearly 20 years have passed since Bret Hart took to the ring as a full-time wrestler, and while we've seen wrestlers since perform rather marvelously between the ropes, few have ever matched Hart's combined offering of timing, psychology, realism, precision, and grittiness. Bret Hart was a champion for many reasons, valued for his earnestness and work ethic, beloved for his understated heroics, and legendary for his innate ability to always rise to the occasion.

Wow what a co-incidental and interesting two facts that both Bret Hart and Curt Hennig say the match they had that night was their best and if it's true that not Sting but yet another Wolfpac member taught Bret Hart the Sharpshooter. I always thought Owen Hart taught him the Sharpshooter cause Jerry Lawler says it during one of the Bret Hart vs Owen Hart matches from the mid 90's and I thought it was just one of them bias pieces of heel commentary that wasn't a lie and was actually factual.
@paulvercetti4489

The way he says it too made it believable cause I think he said... Bret taught Owen everything he knows but Owen taught Bret the Sharpshooter!

Thank you for being the only KZbinr I've ever seen who accurately stated that Bret was more than willing to drop the title before leaving for WCW but didn't want to to Shawn in Canada. He had at least a month left before leaving. That's at least four Raws and a Payperview to drop the title. It DID NOT have to go down like it did.

After watching a documentary where both Bret & Michaels are in it interviewed by JR, and they go over the screw job, Bret said he was willing to drop it the next night (which would of also been in Canada). He was even willing to drop it that night, BUT Shawn messed that up. According to Bret, Shawn was being a disrespectful, cocky, SOB, and acting like he was entitled to the title, and that Bret was washed up garbage. That is why Bret didn't want to drop it to him that night, to teach him a lesson about his lack of respect.
@grahf4215
@grahf4215 5 жыл бұрын
@@Slit518 There's also the documentary called "Wrestling With Shadows" that was filmed during that time in Bret's career. It has Vince on audio promising Bret that he wasn't going to screw him over that night and even agreed to Bret dropping the belt the next night on Raw. There's also one major thing that people forget about that 20 year contract that Bret had at the time. He had creative control. He was well within his rights to not drop the belt to Shawn on the PPV. Hogan did that shit all the time.

The best there was, there best there is and the best there ever will be! I echo what everyone here has said- Bret was my hero as a kid and I still, in my 40s, love the guy. I play as him on WWE 2K22 and rewatch his matches regularly. He's also the reason why I've never taken to Shawn Michaels, even now. There's never been anyone I feel who comes close to how amazing Bret Hart was. It's a shame his career was ended prematurely. Jericho is the last of that generation of wrestlers carrying on the Stu Hart wrestling style.

The enormity and depth of Brets career is overwhelming. I love when people say his match with Bulldog at 92 Summerslam is the GOAT, because it's not even my favorite BH match. Go watch Bret vs The Pirate in September 95. That match had no business being good and it was as watchable as any match in 95. That is what makes Bret great to me. Watch the Mr. Perfect matches in 89,91, and 93. How about vs Stone Cold- in South Africa in 1996???!!! When it is all said and done, however, I have to say the Ironman match vs HBK was the best match ever. What sucked about the match is that it was in southern California. Weak crowd. If that match was in Boston, Philly, NYC, or Chicago, it would be the GOAT...
