Undertaker's Hells Gate looked fucking lethal back when he was using it, that one is easily my favourite if it wasn't so difficult to lock in. There's just something terrifying about an almost 7' tall man twisting himself so that he can try to crush the neck of the poor sod up against him

The #1 is definitely a great move. And I love that you address the "variants" as being not the same at all. You know that when he locks in any of the variants, that the opponent is going to get out of the move, but when the actual move is utilized they ALWAYS tap out.

As an amateur wrestling practitioner, the chickenwing crossface is my go-to for bar fights. I tore rhomboids, strained necks, and caused a LOTTA pain in and outta the mat. Bob Backlund was a genius for introducing that move to my trainer, who loved his work to death.

Also, AJ’s Calf Crusher is derived from a legitimate MMA Submission, the Calf Killer.* If AJ would use his free leg to push his other leg deeper into his opponent’s leg, he’d properly lock it, and properly destroy his opponent’s leg *Calf Slicer, not Calf Killer. Thank you to everyone who pointed this out!

The real move is a bjj compression lock called the calf slicer, calf killer was what AJ had it called when in TNA and NJPW, this name was obviously not PG enough so it was changed to calf crusher in WWE. There's also a really easy and decent bicep slicer that can be used to counter when someone defending an armbar has too good a grip on their own hand/glove to separate and extend the arm. There's quite a few mma/bjj subs that could easily be carried over to wrestling imo. The twister being one that I would definitely use if I was a wrestler

Thank you so much for naming the Liontamer #1. I've felt like a crazy person for years coming back to wrestling after a few years off and seeing people call that boston crab a liontamer when I remember that masterpiece of a submission move being used by Jericho in WCW. I have fond memories of getting a bit too excited during a PPV and my friends and I trying holds on each other during the breaks between matches. This one hurt the most and had me tapping the fastest.

The difference between the Liontamer and the Boston Crab/Walls of Jericho. He literally had you doing a scorpion in the ring and put his knee on the back of people's heads for even more pressure. It just looked so much more painful. The Walls and Boston Crab just look like they're sitting down on an invisible chair, applying no pressure lol

The Sharpshooter actually is a combination submission, it hurts the back and the legs at the same time. I've been in it. @Crazy_Buffalo
@Crazy_Buffalo 6 жыл бұрын
Hell's Gate isn't a triangle lock. It's a gogoplata. The biggest difference between the moves is that in a triangle lock, the attacker's leg is behind the opponents head, whereas the gogoplata has the attacker's leg in the throat of their opponent. Triangle locks are very common in BJJ and MMA, and gogoplatas less common. Taker's Hell's Gate puts his right shin into the opponents throat, making it a gogoplata.

why the Kimura lock by brock lesnar isn't on the list probably the most dangerous submission of all time, hell he even broke arm with that moves

Harmful yes, dangerous, no. The most Dangerous submissions are the Rear naked choke and the Dragon sleeper bro. breaking an arm isn't really all that dangerous, its just painful.

ZSJ's Octopus Stretch? CM Punks Anaconda Vice? Brock's Kimura? AJ's Calf Crusher? AA's Last Chancery? Carmela's Code of Silence? Paige's PTO? Mick Foleys Mandible Claw (his original with out Mr Socko)? Johnny Gargano's Garga-No Escape? Tommaso Ciampa's Bridging Fijiwara Arm Bar? Also, fun fact, it was Ciampa that modified the Rings of Saturn before Neville did, he called it the Rings of Honour or the Sicilian Stretch, but all of these could of easily been on here, or make their way into a part two, along with a mention of Charlottes Figure Eight as her variation puts far more pressure on the opponents legs

Here's why commentators mention leg softening with the Sharpshooter: your calves are being squished together on a shin and a thigh which hurts, and one or both knees are getting hyperextended. It's true MOST of the pain in the Sharpshooter is in the back, but the legs also are in pain. As for Cena's STF, he often looks like he's suffocating the opponent, which ain't fun

Great list, and this video was actually funny as hell, to boot. I gotta say my absolute favorite is Mankind's "Mandible Claw". Not the Socko variation, but the original when Mankind was more deranged/evil. It has a legitimate infamous history and one of the few submissions back then where you could get a closeup camera shot of both wrestlers.

Maybe I've been reading more into what's being said, but when I hear that Natalya is "softening up" another wrestler's legs for the sharpshooter, I take it to mean that she's making it easier to lock it in and nothing more. If their legs hurt, they're not as likely to be able to resist.

Camel clutch feels good. Like a real nice stretch. Same with the sharpshooter that I'm sure is on here. Dragon sleeper is a classic guillotine but can feel good if not a lot of pressure is put on. Figure four actually does hurt. It's a leg scissor in MMA and hurts like hell and hard to escape once it's locked in. Crippler crossface feels like a nice stretch too. When I was a teenager I was a wrestler and huge pro wrestling fan so me and a bunch of buddies formed a grappling\mma\fight club. I remember as a kid getting all of these holds on someone legitimately and then being completely baffled as to why the hell they weren't tapping. Some of the moves I cranked as hard as I could for over a minute easy but nothing. Pro wrestling was kind of ruined for me after that. You give Cena hell for the stf but that was one of the few moves I could get guys to tap with. Then I watched one of the first UFC'S learned a little jiu jitsu and a lot of judo and all of a sudden I was tapping people left and right. Now every now and again I turn on pro wrestling and watch an utterly enormous and gifted athlete get blown on and act like he got shot 32 times and I just go "ugh." Still nostalgic as hell for me though and I still love wrestling.

yeah man, love the camel clutch also. Long held, not pulling back too far, then it's comfortable. Prefer hand over mouth though compared to under chin.

You can rip on the sleeper all you want, but I was amazed one time I made my buddy legit drop passed out in around 6-7 seconds of tight pressure around his neck(his chin was in the crease of my arm, and my other arm pressed down on the back of his neck almost like a triangle). I was blown away at the power in my hands from that day, seriously no joke, I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

Cobra Clutch was a great and deadly submission move back in the day especially when Sargeant Slaughter did it in his early days. I'm talking about when they would wrench the neck. If you ever had that move really put on you you'd know it really hurts.
