Face turns are a lot harder to pull off than heel turns. A heel turn can happen instantly with something as simple as hitting someone from behind but face turns (usually) can’t be pulled off overnight, you have to slowly build up the character to convince the audience to cheer for someone who they were expected to hate just a little while ago.
@franklinjones7933 жыл бұрын
One of the ways to do this, is make us actually feel bad for this asshole. Basically have them get beaten by a Babyface, and then just have their career go down to the midcard then bring them back as a good guy in the main event
@jp38133 жыл бұрын
@@franklinjones793 Another way is to have a heel go up against a more hated heel. Make the crowd crave for the latter's comeuppance at the hands of a less hated wrestler.

I always liked Mr. Perfect's face turn in 1992. Sure he was a great heel and sure turning such a great heel face didn't work in the long run, but seeing Perfect turn on Heenan and Flair over his pride was perfectly (pardon the pun) in line with his character. The fact the whole thing was over teaming with Randy Savage made it all the better. Even though that match was kind of a mess it was still great seeing Savage and Perfect working together.

His face turn was so well done as everyone played their part perfectly. Flair, Razor and Heenan trying to convince Perfect not to do it while putting him down at the same time. Vince, Duggan and Hillybilly Jim planting questions in Perfects head and calling out Heenan for his comments. Macho Man questioning whether Perfect had the guts to accept while complimenting him for his in ring ability. It was all done so well. It is on YT as well as someone had pieced together the PrimeTime Wrestling segments for a video of about 30 minutes. I watch it from time to time and I smile every time I see it.

I disagree with you on a few things about the Kurt Angle entry. For one, it was apparent Jericho was screwing the Rock over, not the WWF per say. He had repeatedly cut promos saying how much he hated WCW so it wouldve made no sense for him to join the Alliance. The build up had played up major tension between The Rock and Jericho and how they couldn’t co-exist, not so much Jericho and the rest of the WWF. As for Angle, I think you are confusing this “face turn” with the one he did earlier in the summer. After Survivor Series, Angle was playing a heel the following night with Vince McMahon and played a heel in that classic segment where Ric Flair re-debuted in the WWF. What Angle did was not seen as a baby face move and he was not “over as a baby face”; he was seen as opportunistic and he went on Raw the next night demanding the crowd thank him for saving the WWF in a very heelish manner. It was Austin who actually turned face after SS while Angle continued to play a heel into their match in the Undisputed Title Tournament at Vengeance 01. Angle was much more over as a baby face earlier in the year after InVasion when he had the milk truck segment, reaching its peak when Angle won the title at Unforgiven (WWF’s first PPV since 9/11)

@alexgunn74795 жыл бұрын
Spot on, Angle was a full on heel at this point. He openly complained that the fans were ungrateful for what he did and the WWF used the next night on RAW to make a number of logical resets which included RVD officially going face and Jerry Lawler returning to replace Paul Heyman on commentary. Angle and Vince were portrayed as the gloating heels and Austin, who felt his heel turn had been a mistake (personally I've always disagreed with that as I thought he did some of his best character and ring work in 2001), was very keen to turn back babyface which he did in the show closing segment with Ric Flair.

Umm miz seriously he should be at the list if not it top 3 . He spent his whole career as heel and then finally with feud with Shane become face and got the love that he deserves

The Daniel Bryan turn wasn't surprising at all as we all knew he wasn't going to last long in the Wyatts. Being at that RAW live I can tell you that the pop for the turn was deafening. The YES chant literally went on as people left the building and walked down the street. It was unreal. The Dunkin Donuts Center has had some memorable RAW moments in the past few years (Roman's cancer announcement took place at another RAW I attended).

I guess its not on here because it was a real life event but Michael Cole's face turn during Jerry Lawler's heart attack is one of the best.

Angle never turned face! The next night on Raw he was a full-fledged heel and AUSTIN is who became face again. The night when Ric Flair returned.

Everyone knew Batista's face turn was predictable, but people were still so excited for it to unfold. DAMN! How often do you see a guy like him get this push from the high heavens. For my 14yr old self, it came out of nowhere! haha

It's funny how almost a decade later The Rock had a similar match with John Cena. And everywhere they went to hype up their WrestleMania match John Cena was the one consistently getting booed.
