What a little gem of a film!! Richard Basehart was brilliant as the baby-faced Robespierre and the voice of Arnold Moss as Fouché added much to the film. Such great cinematography as well. Kudos to Robert Cummings. He was much more than a comedic actor.

Saw this movie on TV when young and I loved it. Also terrified me! Robert Cummings is wonderful and it's a great story.

Wow, this movie hit the ground running and never stopped till the end. Who knew Bob Cummings could play such a serious and determined character. Did anyone recognize Star Trek's Kodos (Arnold Moss) as the devious secret police chief Fouché. What a fascinating and unpredictable character he was.

It was true to life when Robespierre is silenced at the end. When he was to speak at the convention his enemies feared his words so much they busted his jaw.

I only knew of Robert Cummings as a comedic character before this. Nice to see these actors in earlier days. Thanks for sharing.

A very enjoyable trip to the world of freshy sliced loaves; Fouché is particularly good as a wily opportunist with his own special kind of sense of humour.

A young Arlene Dahl - thought she looked familiar! Note: So after the end of this story, Napoleon Bonaparte's association w/Robespierre made him a political suspect so was arrested --but released in 2 wks.

An excellent film with the director and cinematographer working wonders with a low budget. One wonders if the parallels between Robspierre and Stalin were intentional.

This is a very good film about a bloody and exciting era of history. As far as i can tell, they read the history books before they wrote the screenplay. Fouche was a real character--a spider and a watcher behind the scenes. He survived into Napoleon's reign, and even Napoleon was afraid of him See: IN THE DAYS OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION.
