This brought back so many memories. I haven't seen this in decades and decades, but I remember seeing it when I was a little little boy. And the memories it brought back were not only of the movie itself, those blurry, half-remembered scenes in my mind, songs that I sort of remembered existed somewhere in time, But it also brought back memories of the living room in the house where I grew up, I remembered things about that room that I hadn't remembered in so many years. The way the couch looked and felt; all brown and yellow velvet with green plush pillows, the paintings of seascapes that were on the wall, my brothers and sisters all huddled around in front of the big, brown boxy television set. I saw the room for the first time in decades because of this movie.

I find it strange that I never heard of this movie before. I grew up with Snow White, Gulliver 1939, and many classics, but not this one. I love the fact that this movie has many unexpected plot twists and unique story telling. You don’t see many cartoons like that especially in modern times. Many thanks to the host who uploaded this forgotten treasure
@MrPGC137Ай бұрын
One possible reason why it's little known is because this is the one that finally broke the Fleischer studio. They heavily mortgaged their studio (to Paramount) to finance production of it, and when it flopped at the box-office, Paramount made the rash (and possibly illegal) decision to foreclose on the studio. They basically took possession of the studio & all its cartoons, kicked the Fleischers out & moved _everything_ back to New York. As a result, this movie, obtained during the foreclosure like everything else, was considered something of a hot potato & other than occasional reruns on TV, it kind of faded into oblivion, remembered only by people who saw it or by animation historians.
@gedaloomhiaka8488Ай бұрын
@@MrPGC137 That’s sad. I truly hope that social media will give this movie the attention it deserves.
@MrPGC137Ай бұрын
@@gedaloomhiaka8488 In the meantime for more information, the book _The Fleischer Story,_ by Leslie Cabarga, is _highly_ recommended. It was written after extensive interviews with many of the studio artists & other personnel who were then still living. It might be out of print & hard to find, but copies _may_ be available at your local library.

An absolutely wonderful and insanely brilliant classic animated movie! Iconic, groundbreaking, and way ahead of its time in so many ways! A shame that this movie came out during the start of WW2. Although the film critics loved this movie, it failed really badly at the box office. People were afraid and holding onto their money and/or donating every available cent to the U.S. war fund effort. The Fleischer Studios really needed a huge box office success for this film considering how much money this movie cost to make. Yet, over the many years, Mr. Bug Goes To Town has become a true fan favorite and an unforgettably cool animated classic movie!

This was basically A Bug's Life long before Pixar even released A Bug's Life in 1998, not in terms of plot, but in terms of basic premise. Hell, Brave Little Toaster (1987) was a lot like Toy Story before Pixar released Toy Story, again, not in terms of plot, but in terms of general premise.

Tedd Pierce, co-writer of the movie and the voice of Mr. Beatle wrote and voiced for Looney Tunes before and after. Co-animator Irving Spector allegedly started at Mintz/Columbia/Screen Gems but became a writer and board artist for DePatie-Freezling. De-facto assistant director Shamus Culhane went on to co-animate for Chuck Jones in 1942 before directing for Walter Lantz in 1943-45. Swat the Fly, Smack the Mosquito, and C. Bagley Beetle are nothing but trouble.
@Allfather_of_all_living_things28 күн бұрын
That goes without saying anything. Quite frankly: C. Bagley Beetle is nothing more than that of a second rate annoyance to as lowly as a third rate needy pathetic little miser among bug types who’s hellishly starved for attention and admiration in order to compensate for living richly but all alone with swat the fly and smack the mosquito as his dimwitted, mindless, sycophantic, highly incompetent, but lovable henchmen, no matter how much they mean well at times. As for swat and smack, they’re not exactly any better themselves despite only really carrying out C. Bagley Beetle’s orders and doing his dirty work only to be treated no better than how he wishes to treat much less do harm onto that of his arch rival in love for the affections of the lovely Honey the honeybee who’s also the story’s main character: Hoppity the grasshopper
