How Farms Work is a KZbin channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. Our videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and GMO crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Be sure to subscribe for new videos every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 11AM Central!

@lukestrawwalker
@lukestrawwalker 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah never really realized how steep that part of the drive is til you see it in the 360 degree view... I know they said it was REALLY steep there and they had to be really careful with grain carts and stuff because it would push the tractor and potentially lose control, but it's hard to judge that in a "regular" video because the perspective is lost... unfortunately *most* cameras only see in 2 dimensions, and so we lose most of the references our brains use to perceive depth, distance, and slope in most videos (perhaps one day everything will be recorded and viewed in 3D, but until then, this is as close as it gets!) I know our Shiner farm looks practically flat on video and in still pictures, when it's actually fairly hilly... not as hilly as theirs is, but still hilly. The Needville farm, on the other hand, IS pool-table flat... about 3 feet of elevation change in a half-mile from the north end of the farm to the south end. That's it. At Shiner, the difference between the SW corner and the NE corner of the farm (which is 1/2 by 1/2 mile) is nearly 200 feet of elevation... and there's 2 valleys running through the farm roughly north to south, and the front and back are on ridges basically... Later! OL J R :)

That's amazing technology. I need to learn how 360 works because at the moment it seems like pure voodoo magic.
@lukestrawwalker
@lukestrawwalker 6 жыл бұрын
It's basically two (or more) cameras back-to-back, filming both ways at the same time. Probably more than 2 actually, as the angle of the field of view needs to cover the full 360 degrees and most of the way up and down. The wider the field of view of the lens the less cameras required, with a minimum of 2-- one filming forward one backward, or one to one side and the other to the other side. They film everything at the same time from their separate perspectives, and the video of the two is combined or 'stitched together' in the computer... It's just cool as heck... They used to have something similar at the old Astroworld amusement park in Houston... it was called the "Senso-sphere" (IIRC) and it was basically a big dome with 6-7 image projectors (basically TV projectors) arranged back-to-back in the center of this spherical room about 30 feet or so in diameter with a white interior... there were short black carpeted walls and a smooth floor in part of the room and some chairs in the other half... You could sit in the chairs leaned back like planetarium chairs, or lay down on the floor or up against the walls, or just stand around... The projectors showed a film that was made by having a rig with 6-7 cameras mounted on it, all recording outwards so the field of views basically all touched edge-to-edge... as something passed out of the edge of the field of view of one camera, it came into the field of view of the next camera... so you could look in any direction and see whatever you wanted to look at, just as if you were there in real life... They mounted the camera rig on top of a car and drove through a city and some pretty countryside, mountains, desert, etc. Then they had it mounted under a helicopter or plane and flew over the beach, ocean, and under a high bridge, over the city and countryside and stuff... it was really cool... Some people got kinda seasick and if you leaned back in your chair, you felt like the room was moving as the perspective changed-- even though of course the room didn't move, our brains perceive seeing everything in front of them moving in a certain way as *us* moving instead of the image... They even had a warning about it when you went in to the theater, and told you to close your eyes for a few moments if the sensation got too strong! It fun thing to do to cool off after getting scorched in the nearly 100 degree heat and humidity of a summer day at Astroworld, because they kept the air conditioning maxed out in there and it was about 65 degrees in there at all times.. Don't know what became of it when they tore down Astroworld... sad. They have something similar at Epcot in the Florida Disney park... you can see a video shot in a similar way (but designed to be projected on like 4-6 screens in front of you, for a larger audience at one time) that covers basically a 180 degree view, so you get your full peripheral vision, and can look around like you're seeing it from a car or plane window... The one is called "Oh Canada!" in the Canada pavilion and the other is about China in the China pavilion at Epcot... I used to do the same thing with 35 mm photographs... I'd stand in a certain place on vacation with a spectacular view, and then sight through my camera and note particular trees or mountaintops or light poles or landmarks at each edge of the image, take a picture, then pivot slightly to the left or right, align that object or landmark just inside the opposite edge of the image and take another picture, spot another landmark on the other edge of that picture, then pivot again, repeating the process over and over until I either covered the entire 180, 240, or full 360 degree view I wanted... After the pictures were developed, all one had to do was overlap and align those objects in the successive photos along the edges (or trim the photos so half of the object was on one photo and the other half was in the next one over) and then tape them together side-by-side on the back of the photos, and presto-- full panoramas... That's exactly what the "panorama" setting on your phone camera does... it takes multiple images and then electronically "stitches" them together, just like trimming and taping photographic prints together in the old days... This 360 degree camera does the same thing, but as a moving picture or video by stitching together each of the 30 frames per second (or whatever the frame rate is) to make a full moving panorama... just like the Sense-o-sphere... Of course to make it possible for you to "look around" using your mouse on your computer, adds another level of difficulty, as a "grid pattern" must be established for the elements of each image, and then the computer has to be able to sense the directions you're telling it via your mouse or phone and shift the view to match that "grid pattern" that it displays on your monitor or screen... Makes the sense-o-sphere look easy, since it only needs to project exactly what that particular camera saw in the rig onto that section of the spherical screen in front of it, and you chose what to look at by moving your own eyes and head... Later! OL J R :)

I see that you are putting the leaf samples all in one bag. One a field of that size would it be beneficial to take samples from different areas and keep them separate, especially the problem areas so you know what you're lacking in what area? Maybe only parts of the field need more of something.
@jeffgixer5185
@jeffgixer5185 6 жыл бұрын
John Haas no it can't. A yield map just tells them the yield, it doesn't tell them what a specific area is missing. That could be done with separate samples. It's just like when they do grid samples, they are kept seperate.
