That garden is coming along nicely Joey. And that's what I mean by "educating" those deer - that one just had his first lesson. There might be a few more, but they will get the idea eventually. The pear graft is looking good also, but I see you still need to keep eliminating those old spouts on the graft tree itself. Thanks for another gooo'un. God bless and stay safe.

I took the plastic off the other day and spread some tree wound on it just to give a little more protection.

Get you some winter rye and crimson clover plant rye after corn is out then clover in early spring plow it under your organic matter will go up alot
@Jtwes Жыл бұрын
I was thinking oats or rye because I thought they would be cheaper. I don’t know how much the clover would be. But I definitely want to try something.

I just found out the melon farmer just drags a carcass around the field ... Moves it occasionally...and it seems to leave a fairly long lasting impact. And you don't have to drop one yourself if you haul roadkill

@bobrojapistole4426 Жыл бұрын
I heard what you said about some shoots taking off some not the same.with the corn. I learned from the people deep in Mexican cloud mountains the way they grow. After so many years of a perfect strain bred. They reinvigorate the stock by adding in a few teosinte plants to the field.. Then reselecting for desired traits with the new added vigor. ..it's pretty amazing amount of selecting they do.. usually 12- 16 seeds in a mound that gets weeded to 3 or 4.

Hey Malvin I would probably do something more like that if that garden spot I use was on my land. It’s actually a little cross the line so I don’t want to be to permanent.

Good ideas for next year! What I've done with Regen Ag that maybe gives you more to think and experiment with: fall plant winter rye (earlier in the fall is better, possible broadcast while the corn is still standing if expecting Oct or later corn harvest) and then delay corn planting in the spring to last half of May (for me here). Two methods due to my 1950s JD-290 shoe planter limitations is I disked down the rye and planted into that. Smaller field I'm hand planting...Ideally plant into green standing rye (using a no-till type planter) and then roll-crimp (or stepping on an angle-iron bar) to kink and terminate the rye after the corn (or beans) emerge. Gives a straw mat and in-field compost to protect the soil microbes and worms from heat, worms live in the top five inches (tillage sets them back, as does 120F+ bare soil). If you miss fall rye then as early as possible plant spring oats treated the same way as the rye. Rye is more vigorous at out-competing weeds than oats but timing determines choice. Best performance is drilling the rye/oats but broadcast works. There is a guy doing this commercially on 5,000 acres with no chemicals (search Rick Clark presentations, he doesn't have a channel), second best is to 'strip-till' through the rye with a cultivator matching old-time shoe-style planter row spacing to cut channels for the planter shoes to work in. Jon at Maple Grove Farms channel has some white board talks on comparisons of equipment and field passes, how he's cut his fertilizer and other chemicals. I found I need to conventionally plow a hay field the first year then the rye/corn/beans/etc keeps the ground really workable after that. Search out other cover crops for all the NPK vitamins. Buckwheat is great at bringing in beneficial insects, kind of like an insecticide.
@Jtwes Жыл бұрын
Thank You for your thoughts. That was very informative. I had it own my mind this year probably doing rye instead of oats and start incorporating it early April and conveniently planting first part of May.

Hi Joey , the garden is looking good. I know i have to fight with deer and groundhogs over the years. So I decided to plant enough for me and the wildlife that worked out pretty good. But it looked like got the best part of the crop.. Every year when I laid by my corn it was rubbing the bottom of my tractor. But it survived and made a nice corn crop 🌽 . Thanks for sharing. Have a good day. 😎😎

Awesome with more new subscribers Joey. Cultivators are doing a great job. Yeah the soil and temperature makes a big difference. You can plant corn early and if it comes up and is yellow and pale you can plant some a few weeks behind it and it will pass it and go on. Yes the deer can get get your patience.
