I am European (Romanian) and I married in September a Muslim Arab man from Lebanon, Tripoli after dating for 10 months before. He is in between traditionalist and open minded, but I can talk with him about anything that comes in my mind. I never thought I would ever marry an Arab because of the obvious cultural differences and the prejudices we have here about Arabs (that they treat the women like animals :))). BUT I live the happiest time of my life with him. The love, respect and care that he shares with me are of no comparison with anything that I met in my life both from my experience and from others. I go to Uni although I am in the early 30's and I will work afterwards. His opinion is that a woman should decide for herself about her carreer, education, job and so on. An aspect of his traditional side: he says he will always be the family's provider and my money is only my money, and only in exceptional cases he would ask for help.

The two of you were right. It was dangerous.He is a bit nice but controlling and a tad possessive. At first It was cute, but the moment he tried to impose rules to me as if he is my "King". Mine was the third. I'm a 24 year old hispanic woman by the way. He was a Suni Muslim from Yemen, but he grew up in the United States. I met him in college in Florida, where I was born. I assumed he would be traditional, but then he came off as very liberal at first. But within a month he started showing more signs of being sexist. Then he became too controlling for me. He made me feel like my opinion was not important and that he was always right. I felt like an object and that I was only there for his pleasure. I dumped him after a month. I couldn't take it anymore. So, that's my story. Hope it helps.

Happy to say I am with a Beyond Arabic man. Like one of the other people who commented below, my Arabic man is focused and quiet at times. He is definitely non-judgmental, inquisitive, highly intelligent and curious about the world and other cultures around him. I am from USA and he is from Syria. I have never met anyone like this person. I am treated as a princess, as he is very attentive to me, checks on me every morning to make sure I am okay and to see if I need anything. He encourages me to express myself and constantly tells me to not be afraid to do so, but that I can be free around him. After seven months together, I can see very clearly all of what he has shown me of himself is true.

Well said. I've experienced all of these, in all cultures. Edward Said is another Beyond Arab. One thing I would add: The beyond category isn't just beyond Arab, it's also beyond male. We all have masculine and feminine energies in us, and these people have learned to integrate the two and are comfortable with both aspects of themselves.

Edward Said is a famous Palestinian-American writer, professor, and thinker. Probably more famous here than he is in the Arab world. He did a lot of writing about how eastern and Arab cultures are perceived in the West, and how those perceptions enable Western colonialism. Wrote a lot about Palestine. Well, I’m half Lebanese and Mexican. My husband is full Lebanese Christian. We live in The USA 🇺🇸 at fist he was I’m the man I rule. But now he is like baby what ever you want you rule. Lol. I honestly advise against dating Arab men. You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into, unless you are an Arab woman yourself. You need to know the culture and expectations. Very few of them take dating with a foreigner serious, though the ones who don’t, won’t tell you that of course. I’ve dated two who turned out to be the double standard guy, which there seems to be a lot of around. If you’re just looking for fun, then Arabs are good choice. But for more than that, I highly suggest moving on.

I know him since 8 months but mostly from talking on the phone, and we are talking about getting married.we met over friends. He tells me i will not have to work if i dont want, he will be the provider and only for him its important that I take good care of my looks and show kind behaviour and good cooking and not present myself to other men too much, but I can go out with friends,its no problem for him. I meant my ex husband from Jordan in a nightclub in 1998 and that should've been my warning and after a year found out he was married twice and the marriages were not legal as he was trying to obtain citizenship and then he found me and I stupidly married him and bought a house I put down all the money, left left me over Christmas 2016 and that was the end of it. He was a non practicing muslim and never prayed and said he was going to hell anyway so why should he try. I am now remarried to a wonderful Christian man. Stay with your own kind and be careful of single foreign men and make sure they are either born here or can prove they are a citizen as my ex lied on our first date and told me he was a citizen and never said he was still married to this woman. My regret runs so deep for this "marriage".

He claimed the last two marriages really weren't real and he didn't even live wiith those women. I saw the marriage certificates and divorce papers as well. I am truly not sure if he ever really did love me. I heard a voice in me saying that he was desperate to find an American woman to marry and file for a green card. I guess little did he know his case was flagged by INS/FBI as possible fraud so they denied our petition 2x and said the case was rejected and wait for a letter for a court date. That letter never came and I know he's still living here without legal citizenship so I guess he's pretty lucky no one has found him out. In any event I do not wish harm on him but peace and hopefully a better life. Thank you for your support as you are very kind!

At the beginning we had some struggles and he treated me like I’m an Arab women ( I had to laugh, when in saw your video about Arab women). For example: I was just looking at a dress and he was like , I’ll buy you this. I don’t matter about material things and this was new for him 😄

Excellent posting, and thank you for making it. Most of my experiences have been with double-standard Arab men. This is why I will not consider dating them in the future. This is unfortunate as so many Arab men are quite attractive, intelligent, sensitive and are often in touch with their feminine side. All of these traits are so endearing! However, the issues of over-controlling, sexism and extreme jealousy are absolute deal breakers. Some Arab men initially present themselves as open-minded and flexible. In my experience these traits are not genuine, and fall away within a few months. This is a terrible thing to say, but Arab men now scare me. A friend of mine, and also myself have been stalked by an Arab man. But thank you so much for defining the four types you’ve identified, and explaining them so expertly. My hope is that Arab men will see your video and do some deep soul-searching on their way to becoming the “beyond Arab” man. Again, I send you thanks.

It’s sad that I dated an Arabic man who uses me for money.. he asked me a lot of times to buy him stuffs online on his PUBG account and he never ever buy things for me.. even not trying to buy anything at all... little things but he asked so much to buy him this that just because he knew I worked in US .. Can someone answer me this? I’ve been dating an Algerian man for 6 months now. He says I’m “his girlfriend” but I don’t know much of his life. I asked him why I don’t know any of his friends. Because I’m ours dates he always bring some of his friends. Well, I met only one Algerian and that was my experience. He was very nice person but we were not made for each other. I am a beyond Arabic Man, I had nevertgought about it and had never found a category that close,y fitted to what I represent in this world, I used to Say an Arab World Citizen. In fact I think what I think made Arabs great at what time was this type of thinking , it was forward, Arabs were word travelers they never rested on their laurels they liked to learn from others, they learned from science, math, technology and other things from other nations of the world. Many Arabs mixed with others nations today Arab families get upset if Arab children marry outside of the race. For example when I lived in Kenya the Swahili population in Black and Arab a beautiful mix of culture and tradition, my friend Said, living in Kenya would never be allowed to marry Black, my mother's family stopped my mother from entering my grandparents house because my father is half American Half German. Woth time my father paid the wedding of three of my aunts helped my grandmother 14 years economically, something my uncle would not do. Why be judgemental. My grandmother would say I was the most Arabic of her grandchildren (we are immigrants) the rest of my cousins except 1 were full Arabs, with time they found out that the favorite uncle that married into the family came from a Jewish family, too late that was after 3 children, even after that my father was still judged. My ther always told me he wished he could have learned Arabic when he was young when traveling America he would say this is my wife, she is Arabic and I am proud of her. My mother's family has nevermstopped being ashamed of my father. My father did win the respect of about 70% of the family unfortunately most of the direct family members never came around. I am proud to be like my 2 Arabic teachers in London😉

And the silk road made huge impact on our culture at the time. Nowadays, people stopped travelling, borders are being created, traditions becomes our religion rather than the true meaning of The Qur'an. Yes! Now there are 3 of us :) we need more.
