@1sotheary3 жыл бұрын
I live in Minnesota and this list is a little tricky. It's true that Breck and St. Thomas Academy have won multiple state championship, but that's at the lower tier class A level, and not AA where the bigger schools compete. St. Thomas Academy just made the move up to AA a couple years a go and are doing well against the competition, but they haven't won a state title at AA yet. Don't know much about Gentry since it's a new school, but they compete in the lower tier class A and no state titles yet, but have to wait to see how they do. Cretin-Derham Hall plays in the top tier class AA and are decent. They are fairly competitive and have won a state title. Hill Murray plays in the top tier class AA and are always competitive. They've won multiple state titles over the years. Probably the best program on this list regarding the high school league. Shattuck St. Mary's is a really good program, but since they don't compete in the MN High School League like all the other schools listed in this video, it's hard to say how they would compare to the other schools in Minnesota. This video said that they have won over 20 national championships, but that's in a league that considered lower tier compared to the MN High School League. The top high school teams in MN don't compete in the USA hockey national championships, aside from Shattuck St. Mary's and lower tier Minnesota teams, like the high school Gold teams. By far, the best hockey program over the years in Minnesota has been Edina High School, which is a public school. I believe they've won 16 state titles at class AA. Just my 2 cents.
@mrkeys4788 Жыл бұрын
You’re SO wrong. I work at Shattuck, born & raised in MN. Shattuck is by far the elite hockey program in MN. Has been since the late 90’s. They would kick Edina’s ass any year…

On top of it all, Mount Saint Charles is a high school not prep! Coach Bill Belisle should be mentioned in the same breath as Herb Brooks for developing USA hockey talent early on. NHL era Mat Schneider, Garth Snow, Paul Guay, Keith Carney , Brian Boucher , Bryan Berard, Brian Lawton, Jack and Dave Capuano, and Jeff Jillian.....all played in the nhl.

I'm surprised that Mt. St. Charles Academy in Rhode Island didn't make this list. Considering it's history and caliber of players produced.

I can’t even imagine what these schools cost. The one problem I have with hockey is the inaccessibility for not rich people. I’d love for my boys to get top tier education and hockey instruction, I work 2 jobs plus side work and I still couldn’t afford to send them to these places. Hockey is too classist these days, USA Hockey needs to do something about this.

Once upon a time, the game had strong working class roots, and players developed in their local youth systems, which while far from without cost, didn't have heavy five figure tuition. There were some schools like these, but relatively few. Then a profit motive came around to cater to vicarious-living hovermoms and bulldozer dads, and a new culture was born. Now it's as much about who can afford the most icetime and private lessons as anything else. Sadly, it's not just a USA issue either.

absolutely - that is a huge issue - in Canada as well as another commenter stated hockey had blue collar roots - although it is hard to say we have much in the way of blue collar anymore -it is out of reach of the average family . These schools would have always been out of reach - a buddy of mine's kid was a really good hockey player and went to Culver - we have lost touch - but last i heard he is a mechanic now . The ones on this list that i know of offer excellent prep educations

I think Northwood prep school should be on here. They have many NHL alumni . Including Mike Richter. They have played and defeated Shatuck ST. Mary’s a few times and they have beat Culver and had close games with them

St. Sebastian's '94. No quam s with the list. Humbled to be an Arrow Hockey fan, and a 2 time V. Lacrosse Captain. How could you leave Mr. Michael "Big Daddy" Grier out of the Alumni NHL mentions? He had a long career and is the best Hockey Role Model we had as far as nutrition was concerned in the years ('92-'94) I attended. Shout out to My other Favorite Hockey Arrow is Univ. of. Maine National Champion '99 Mr. Jason Vitorino Arrow '95. Straight out of Brookline. Rockstar Human being. Selfmade Millionaire. Commercial Real Estate force in Dallas's Texas. Nicest kid. Best Family.

we (Dayton 03-05) played Gilmore and culver every year. They were great but I Had no idea the competitive advantage they had. We only got to practice 2.5 hours a week and we still beat ‘em. Cold showers

No Mount Saint Charles??? Two alumni went first overall, over 20 alums signed pro contracts, 60 plus alums went Div1 and ten years ranked as the top HS in the US. Two alumni members Garth Snow and Brian Lawton were or are NHL GMs and Jack Capuano was coach of the Islanders. Oh and 26 RI State Championships in a row
