Thanks to Snoop Dog for making hockey popular in the Golden State. Lol. Check out G&J video from 94 wearing Pittsburgh Penguin gear. Also wearing another hockey jersey with an “S” I don’t know what team that is. Maybe it’s Team Snoop

Didn't mention the California Golden Bears but then again they only have two AAA birth years right now (2007 & 2009). The Reign are a joke--a complete joke at all levels. The fact that USA hockey grants them AAA status is really unbelievable.

@@Spanluver Fair point and I'm glad you ask because I just happen to have that data at my finger tips. Short story: going back to 2018-2019 season, highest ranked team --18AAA--was 104. No teams cracked MHR top 100 in any season I could find. Between 2018-2019 season and 2022-2023, 90% of their teams had losing records and these losses weren't close. See GD (goal differentials) below for each season. Their most successful group and level tended to be 10B and BB. So, imagine your kid starts there as a mite and plays all the way through 18 with 90% odds of being on a losing team being blown out every game. Your kid would spend his entire childhood suffering loss after loss after loss after loss. 2022-2023 season. 14 teams (10BB1 & 2, 10A, 12BB 1 & 2, 12AA, 14A, 14AA, 14AAA, 15AAA, 16AA, 16AAA, 18AA, 18AAA). 354 total games. Club win-loss-tie record = 46-292-15. Goals For (GF) = 656; Goals Against (GA) 2469; GD = -1813. Best team 14B 10-10-4 (still managed a -48 GD). 2021-2022 season. 13 teams (10B 1&2, 12B, 12BB, 12AA, 14A, 14AA, 14AAA, 15AAA, 16AA, 16AAA, 18AA, 18AAA). 356 total games with club record of 90-246-9. GF =928, GA = 1824, GD = -966. I'd mark a "winning season" with a win percentage of 50% or higher for season: 16AAA (25-20-0) and 10B2 (17-7-1). 2020-2021. Covid, so not much of a season. But JR had 5 teams--14AA, 16AA, 16AAA, 18AA, 18AAA. They played a total of 110 games, lost 78, won 30, goal diff -258. No winning seasons for any team. 2019-2020. 10 teams (10B, 10A, 12B, 12A, 12AA, 14A 1&2, 16AA, 18AA, 18AAA). 266 games, 64-193-9. GF = 551, GA = 1429, GD = -875. 2 teams at 50% or higher: 14AA (20-20-1) and 10B (13-9-0) 2018-2019. 10 teams (10BB, 12A, 12A, 12AA, 14A, 14AA, 16A, 16AA, 18AA, 18AAA). 206 games, 49-138-16. GF = 510, GA = 955, GD = -559. This doesn't include Bosco--the high school team they run, which, of course, also has a losing record. Everything they touch turns to lead and sinks. If your kid is going into AA with the Reign, just know (don't assume--know this for a certainty) that the team will not make the AA cut. And, thanks to CAHA/SCAHA's brain trust, it won't even have a SCAHA season. So, you'll pay for a full season, you'll just be a tournament team, and even then, you'll lose most of your games in tournaments with relatively weak teams (b/c the JR doesn't have teams that qualify for competitive tournaments). One could argue that doing these stats like total club wins, losses, goal differentials might give the wrong impression and that it would be better to look at individual teams because maybe there are teams that excel while others floundered so bad that it brings the whole club's numbers down. But that's just not the case here. If anything, these club-wide stats make it look better that it really is. It's bad. Just go through MHR, SCAHA, and CAHA stats and you'll see the numbers above are accurate. Deciding what level to place a team can always be hard, but when you run a program in which 9 of 10 teams have losing records year after year after year after year, then it's clear they're putting teams at levels that those teams don't belong in. Worst part: these teams didn't lack talented kids. Many have moved on to AAA programs in SoCal (Kings, Ducks, Bears, Ice Dogs (Now OCHC)) as well as AA for the same clubs. And they flourish in those clubs. The JR waste talent; they don't develop them. And they have massive turn-over. I've heard they lost every kid who played their 2022-2023 14AAA team (but I don't know for sure), every kid from their 15AAA team, almost every kid from their 16AAA team. I've heard they're so desperate for players on their 18AAA team that they actually have an 09 rostered on the 18AAA team (although, again, this is just a rumor). I know of one kid from the 16AA team last year that has played hockey since he was 5, his mom, a single mother is a huge hockey fan, and the kid quit hockey and all-but hates it "because of the Reign" (I heard him say those words myself). Worst worst worst part: They have everything they need to make this a club that could rival the Kings or Ducks--size, sheets of ice available to it, people willing to go to them. But they waste it. Either because of mind-set or need to max profits, they don't make their kids better. They just do the same thing year after year and get the same results year after year.

@@seadog2969some of that is true, but can’t you make the same argument for jr kings, saints, jr gulls are a bit better, but most team with success have wealthy families from OC (Goldrush, avalanche, oc hockey) so you have to also factor in the money. There is a huge wealth disparity I mean you are basically putting your kid up against a wallet. Also, nobody sticks around after a losing season so your paragraph about staying with team from mites to 18 with 90% losing chance is not realistic. There is a trend now of parents switching teams after a single year. Whether it’s SDIA, jr reign, Goldrush, bears, avalanche…. Parents basically give coach one year. They fail, they leave for another program

Bro, I think Jr Kings had a winless season last year what are you talking about ranked top 10 in every age group? Unless you just cherry pick skill level.

To be fair, this a vid about top AAA programs. When it comes to AAA, Jr Kings are solid, very solid. Edit: thought this was about AAA (lol). But what carries club reputations are their AAA clubs. It may seem unfair b/c of that, but it's just how it is. Jr. Kings have the most solid club in CA. First, for SoCal AAA clubs, purpose is to play at most to 15O year because talent should then go to prep, WHL or USHL. So, focus is 11U to 15O. You can compare this to the Ducks, Sharks, etc. but while those teams will have a couple superstar teams (i.e. Ducks 09 birth year), only the Jr. Kings have consistent placement in top 10 each year for 11s to 15Os. If you want to criticize them, then criticize them for being a team that recruits its talent instead of developing them from its A, an AA levels. But as a AAA club, it's definitely 10 ten in the country: 06s: 2018-2019 season No. 3 overall (and won Quebec Tourney); 2019-2020 No. 3 overall (lost a lot of players to prep after that season); 2020-2021 No. 9 (loses more to prep, WHL, and USHL), finally drops because talent has moved on (as it should) 2021-2022 season to 159 overall. 07s: 2018-2019 (11U), No. 12 overall; 2019-2020 (12U) No. 5 overall; 2020-2021 b(13U) No. 8 overall; 2021-2022 (14U) No. 10 overall; 2022-2023 (15O) no. 4 overall for 15O, wins 15O Nationals. I know the Coach, Bebe, but don't know what kind of turn-over they'll have this year. I suspect a lot of loss to prep schools. But they beat Shattuck's a few times so maybe the kids will want to stay together, who knows? 08s: 2019-2020 (11U) No. 7 overall; 2020-2021 b(12U) No. 1 overall; 2021-2022 (13U) No. 3 overall; 2022-2023 (14U) no. 6 overall. Already some kids lost to prep schools. But don't know. 09s: 2020-2021 b(11U) No. 38 overall; 2021-2022 (12U) No. 12 overall; 2022-2023 (13U) no. 16 overall. (The 09 birth year is the anomaly and biggest question mark. Lost almost half its team to prep about 3 or 4 kids, lost 3 to the Bears, I think.) They've recruited out of state kids so we'll have to see. But for this birth year, at least, 09 Ducks are still the team to beat. 10s: 2021-2022 (11U) No. 3 overall; 2022-2023 (12U) 13 overall.
