In Kyoto's Hanamachi district, maiko change the way they tie their hair and wear tooth black for a short period of time before becoming geiko.
Since most geiko do not get married once they become geiko, they are allowed to look like "new wives" for only a short period of time.
On this day, I was able to meet a beautiful and famous maiko on her day of becoming a geiko.
