Scott Shea is the author of All the Leaves Are Brown: How The Mamas & the Papas Came Together and Broke Apart. He had NRI's Kathryn Jean Lopez at Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. That famous line from California Dreamin’ about stopping in a church and praying involved the historic Old St. Patrick's Cathedral Catholic Church in lower Manhattan. The book definitely isn’t about church, but it is the stuff of life and culture, including the people behind music that is so familiar to us. We talk about the band, the music, the humanity behind entertainment, the sometimes-powerful unifying nature of music, among other things. Shea, who is a producer at The Catholic Channel on Sirius XM explains, too, the journey that brought him to writing about The Mamas & the Papas - a book that has been named one of Variety’s best books about music for 2023.
