Yeah I agree. I didn't own the PS1 but my school friends did and so we spent hours playing this on school nights back in the 90s. No phones, no internet just totally absorbed in the Gameplay enjoying each others company. The ones I remember the most were Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Grand Theft Auto, Theme hospital - it was a great time to be a teenager.

Pretty good list. Got most of my favourites from that era and others that I may not have played, but heard about. And to show how massive the PS1 era was, there were a bunch of games on the list I never heard of! Only two games that I enjoyed as a kid that weren't on this list, and they are: - NHL 98: Loads of fun playing with buddies, listening to the emphatic commentary, the music, the simple, yet fun gameplay. The video intro was a banger, too! Miss that in modern sports games. No effort to put together a video package intro to the games anymore. - Space Jam: Some would say a super simple, underdeveloped game, and there is some case for that, but I loved it. Me and my cousin played it over and over. Simple fun. Get your 3 vs 3 Tune Squad or Monstars team together, use their 'special' dunk ability or pass and shoot around for a crazy wild game of basketball. Reminds me of NBA Jam for the Arcade, but with Space Jam characters.

I loved Metal Gear on NES so when it came out on PS I swapped my N64 with him for a week and bought MGS, I couldn't put the controller down. My buddies were trying to get me to go out with them all weekend but I just stayed home in my apartment and played. I beat it in 2 nights, the Psycho Mantis fight almost had me breaking my tv

The ps1 was THE console to play games on if you were a fan of rpgs and some platformers, mech and jet games. Ps2 was amazing too, but I just have way more memories with ps1. It was everything to me.

My friend with the N64 told me PSX was quantity over quality. I said nah, it’s quantity and quality. Still my favorite console ever. It came at the intersection of old and new era of gaming, which makes it super unique. We think 2d on 3d is unique but we doing it on psx 30 years ago.

In a lot of ways, I agree!! so many amazing and unique games, and it was definitely the biggest and most Ing graphical leap?? Back in 1995 at 11 years old, it felt amazing on Christmas morning playing games like ridge racer and Tekken, destruction, derby, jumping flashing twisted metal... and the entire generation was amazing and I'm still playing a lot of those games today and getting more enjoyment out of them, then newer stuff?!

Ya know, this was a well done list. I could see a reason for every game you included, a few choices were a bit off here and there for me personally, but overall I would have to say I agree with like 97% of it. Not necessarily in the order presented but either way. One omission that stuck with me was Street Fighter Alpha 3, did that not quality for the criteria because it's technically an arcade port or something? I mean that is not only one of the playstation's best 2d fighting games, but one of the best of all time. Beyond that, there was a distinct lack of 2d fighters in the list, period. It made me realize that my own game collection has a ton of gaps in it, thankfully a lot of it is more common/less expensive like the Twisted Metal or early Tomb Raider games, but then there's Silent Hill or Valkyrie Profile for example. No way I'm paying market value. In my case I have a lot of stuff that was on the list, including some of the expensive heavy hitters like Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, etc. along with several pricey games that weren't on the list... but at some point in time I got rid of a lot of stuff like the Crash & Spyro games, Jersey Devil (oof), Lunar, Star Ocean 2, I could go on. Hindsight is 20/20 lemme tell ya.

I always preferred the Saturn version of "Tomb Raider." I played it back when it came out on my Saturn. It has a darker, more eerie atmosphere, and i preferred the quadlateral over the trialateral polygons for some reason. But what do i know, i also played "RE2" for my 1st time on N64 and am more nostalgic for it. Once again, some games on N64 like "Doom64" just had their own darker ambient atmospheres. Always loved the "Turok" series for that reason. If you want to play the closest thing to a "King's Field" like dungeon crawler for N64, I recommend "Shadowgate 64." It's the only game like this on the sytem.

The 3 armored core games would've made my list. They are very ambitious games in the mech simulation genre that pushed the ps1 and despite the jank they played pretty well. Einhander would've been included too.

Oh man psx had so many amazing games. For me the biggest stand outs have to be my favourite game of all time - Gran Turismo 2, my favourite ww2 game of all time - Medal of Honor Underground, my favourite third person shooter - the innovative Syphon Filter series (i only slightly dislike psp games which lost that unique gameplay mechanics), an amazing rally classic - CMR 2.0 (how they managed to make it look so good), really great and very modern in terms of how it feels to control - Colony Wars Red Sun (it also looks fantastic!), one of the best kart races ever - CTR, perfect skateboarding game - THPS 2... and many others xd

Final Fantasy 6 is still my favourite FF game of all time but I get why 7 would be top of the PS1 list. I personally would have had Metal Gear and it swapped but it's all personal taste.

These are my are my personal suggestions to swap in your list: - Legend of legaia by star ocean the second history (this game is way more ahead of it's time, you can create a complex relationship between the characters, well, basically there's no room here to describe how I love this game) - Medievel by Musashi. The exploration in it's time was very cool and there's a lot of things to do - ridge racer by wild arms. I'm not fan of racing games and I really love jrpgs games - soul blade by ace combat 2. It's my favorite of the series and to me it was very impressive -parrapa the rapper by armored core. The customization that you can do in your robot was very nice in this time

ESPECIALLY in emulation with the 60fps patch enabled also, hearing someone say that obtaining the A license is "elusive" and implying that it's mind-numbingly difficult really puts into perspective for me just how different these games must feel to normie gamers that don't usually play racing games outside of when the Switch gets hooked up at parties. Mario Kart this is NOT.
