Rhaenyra is the smartest character; she risks her life by going to the one person who has no power to stop this war. This damn show.

@@oskarileikos The portrayal of Rhaenyra and Alicent in the show diverges significantly from the original story in *Fire and Blood*. In the book, Rhaenyra makes plenty of questionable decisions, and it's clear that these actions are intentional. However, in the show, many of these choices feel forced, the showrunners are more focused on getting the actresses together in the same room than on maintaining narrative consistency. The show made it clear that the "war of words and ravens" ended with Luke's death, yet they continue to reunite the characters for scenes that make little sense within the story's context. This pattern is evident with the return of Viserys and young Rhaenyra, which feels more like a reunion fest than a meaningful narrative development. The wasted potential of Lucerys’ and young Jahaerys’ deaths is another major flaw. These events should have been pivotal moments that galvanized both sides, but instead, we’re left with scenes of Rhaenyra and Alicent gazing somberly into the distance, questioning, “What would you have me do?”... The writers seem to have been overly concerned with how audiences would react to a show centered around two power-hungry women, so they shifted much of the blame onto the men around them, turning Rhaenyra and Alicent into victims rather than exploring their darker, more ruthless sides. From the very beginning of the show, it's clear that the creators wanted to downplay the complexity of the characters and their morally grey actions. Instead, they opted to frame the narrative as a battle against the oppressive patriarchy, with Rhaenyra painted as someone who can do no wrong, and Alicent as a noble figure for being willing to sacrifice her MALE family member for the greater good (as in, defeating patriarchy). The insistence on repeatedly bringing Alicent and Rhaenyra together feels contrived, especially since the show was an opportunity to fill in the gaps of the source material, not rewrite it entirely. Unfortunately, the story has been altered so much that it hardly resembles the original tale. The showrunners seem uninterested in exploring the deeper themes of the succession crisis, the dangers of primogeniture, or the consequences of giving children NUKES. Instead, the show has turned into bad fan fiction, straying far from the complexity that made the book so compelling. It's particularly disappointing because Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy have the potential to portray the darker, more complex versions of their characters. However, like Tyrion's character in *Game of Thrones*, the showrunners seem hesitant to allow these characters to embrace their more ruthless sides, despite adapting material that clearly points in that direction. The narrative now centers on Alicent and Rhaenyra as victims of a patriarchal society, with the show positioning them as two women navigating a patriarchal Westeros rather than exploring the true essence of their characters as depicted in *Fire and Blood*. Also, what's wild about the kiss scene between Rhaenyra and Mysaria is that Mysaria JUST got through talking about how her father raped and impregnated her as a child, cut out the baby and left her for dead... Like.. in what world would someone want to do anything sexual immediately after telling someone about their childhood sexual abuse? Not to mention that part of the story just disappears and doesn't get acknowledged whatsoever in the following episode ?! Painful dude. Just painful. Alicent: "cOmE wItH mE"🤡🤡🤡 audience: *d13s from cringe* GRRM is cursed to have his work rewritten by people who think they can "improve" it to suit modern audiences, I hate these writers, what a waste of time, and I'm sure the actors were disappointed with S2 as well.

Queen Alicent Hightower to Prince Aegon II Targaryen: "You are the challenge! You are the challenge, Aegon! Simply by living and breathing! You are the King's firstborn son. And what they know, what everyone in the realm knows in their blood and in their bones, is that one day, you will be our King." I think this quote sums up that war was inevitable. No prophecy is required.
