@Aquarimax6 жыл бұрын
Richard Harris Podolsky warmer temps can speed it up to some degree, but if you get it too warm it will kill the culture, I would suggest not going over the mid-80s F. If you have a chunk of Java moss handy, or a mature sponge filter, both will tend to have a thriving Infusoria culture on them already, and you can use those immediately.

Infusoria is great for feeding daphnia and copepods as well. A lot of people who cultivate daphnia in asia will use decomposing vegetables like cabbage or manure to promote infusoria in daphnia cultures as the only food source. The way I've been promoting infusoria in my invertebrate aquarium is taking my plant cuttings and, instead of throwing them away, microwaving them and placing them back into the aquarium.

This is a older video, but a always helpful video for anyone who need food for their born swimming Betta Fishes. I never knew or heard this method until I randomly reach up something about Male Bettas only just a bit ago, and this food source came up. I don’t know pet stores like Petmarts, Petco, Petland, and some local city pet stores don’t sell live food for their customers, because that’s what they need most for when they want to breed their fishes. That’s what I hate most about some pet shops. It’s easier to buy it right there than buying online and wait for it to arrive at your door in idk how many days. Also for the most part, when people sell live food, they most likely only sell brine shrimp. Idk why though.

@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
Kristīne Koršakova Thank you! Infusoria can be used for many fish fry. Most egglayer fry in the hobby can start with Infusoria, although some fry are too small even for that. Most cichlids hatch large enough that they don’t need Infusoria, but you could offer it in the 2-3 after they become free-swimming. newly hatched brine shrimp are a great first food for all but the smallest cichlid fry.

Can i use tap water? The water is cloudy and has that rotten smell, but when will it have the infusoria?
@Aquarimax7 жыл бұрын
frank bertis You can use tap water if you boil it first. if the water is cloudy already, it shouldn't be long before the infusoria are ready to harvest. . Once the water starts to clear up, it means the infusoria are rapidly reproducing and eating the bacteria that are causing the cloudiness. Typically, it takes 10-14 days total.

@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
Low Tech Aquarium It might be possible, if you remove detritus from the bottom and add new vegetables and water every week or so. I would actually recommend keeping two jars running. As one nears the end of production, clean it out and start it over, then seed it with the thriving Infusoria in the other culture. That way, you should nearly always have a producing culture going.

quick question. I'm getting a crested gecko and was wondering what kind of isopods would be best for my vivarium for the gecko to eat, yet still be effective tank janitors? Any thoughts on what species .
@Aquarimax8 жыл бұрын
If you want your gecko to be able to eat some of the isopods, yet still get the benefits of tank janitors, you might try powder blues (Porcellionides pruinosus). They are large enough that the gecko would likely see them as food, yet prolific enough that they could withstand some predation. That said, I would recommend culturing them outside the vivarium, so you can add them periodically to the vivarium.

do infusoria "dies" or "expires"? I think my infusoria is fully matured now and I'm still conditioning my bettas. Will my infusoria still be okay for my future fries?
@Aquarimax6 жыл бұрын
Joe Diamandis if you have to keep for longer than a week or two, I you can set up new cultures, but instead of adding aquarium water, add some of your mature culture. To you mature culture, add some aquarium water and a little of the same food you used to start the culture. This should help speed up the new cultures and prolong the life of your old culture, and you should have a ready-to-feed culture once your bettas are ready.

Thanks Aquarimax Pets for replay will try infusoria culture. Also will look for videos on vinegar eels if I find And try that as well Just wanted to know after how many week I can feed them with DAFNIA? Thank in advance
@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
LOG JHON I made an old video on Vinegar Eels, but the information is still good. When you can feed the fry with daphnia depends on the strain of daphnia, age of daphnia, and how fast your fish grows, which can vary a lot, so a time in weeks is difficult to provide, but roughly, after about a month, they should be able to eat smaller daphnia strains.

hey uh I saw some ppl commenting about worms in thier cultures, i plan do for my fry, i have question can fry eat those worms? are they have parasites? sorry i have bad english
@kyosthetrash90556 жыл бұрын
oh and one more question if use big jar how know how much leaves to use?
@Aquarimax6 жыл бұрын
kkthepony I have never encountered worms in my Infusoria cultures, and as far as I know, the only way to introduce parasites to your fish from an Infusoria culture is to use water from an aquarium containing parasites to start your culture...and even then, it might not happen.
@kyosthetrash90556 жыл бұрын
Aquarimax ok thank you! so if i accidentally feed the fry a worm do you think thet will eat it?
@Aquarimax6 жыл бұрын
If it is appropriately sized, yes. Whether that is a good thing or not depends on the type of worm. I feed my fry microworms with great success.

You will need a source of microorganisms..?some people add some pesticides-free grass from outside to accomplish that.

Very informative video. I've been "reproducing" infusoria for months now using many jars. Everything went normal --- water gets cloudy white then clears after a few days. However, one of my jars turned red/pink after being cloudy. Is this normal? What might be the cause of this?
@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
海棠晴 hmmm...that is interesting...the red/pink color could be due to a number of different things. Have you looked at it under a microscope?
@bugcatcherinviridianforest24805 жыл бұрын
@@Aquarimax Sadly, I do not have any kind of microscope, thought some suggests it's some kind of red/brown algae infestation (not sure either). But I don't see any fuzzy red films on the sides of the jar... just the water itself being deep red. Side notes: The vegetable matter is still in decaying stage (smells really bad right now) and water is cloudy red. Should I toss the culture and start again?
@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
海棠晴 I would toss the culture and start again. If it is some kind of cyanobacterial bloom, it could be dangerous for your fry.

Do I need to keep the container open?
@Aquarimax5 жыл бұрын
VB 23 yes, or at least use a cover with ventilation for best results. The bacteria the Infusorians feed on, as well as the infusorians themselves, use a fair amount of oxygen.

I started a culture, after a week I don't know are there any infusoria but I see some micro worm types something. Are they safe for fry to feed?
@Aquarimax6 жыл бұрын
If they appear to be the appropriate size for your fry, they are most likely safe to feed.

the infusoria feed on the lettuce?
@Aquarimax8 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey Lee Sort of. The bacteria feed on the nutrients from the lettuce, and the infusoria feed on the bacteria.

@Aquarimax7 жыл бұрын
Mama Diana Java moss will certainly help. Whether or not it will be enough depends largely on the moss to fry ratio. How many fry and how much moss do you have?

Tino Miller These are easier in that the organisms can be found just about anywhere. Vinegar eels are extremely easy, but you need some of the worms to begin with. 👍
