That was a huge dam to remove! Jennifer, I’ve seen mstech86 for years pull sticks out from the base and upwards and it weakens the dam enough for it to come down on it’s own sometimes and it makes it much easier to deconstruct. As a technical hint, you might see if you can rig up a small sandbag to a bungee cord to hold your tripod down. That's a trick I learned to hold down reflectors and lights against wind, but I bet it would work in water too. A couple of pounds would go a long way.

Have you watched #kenislovas? He sometimes uses a shovel along with his potato rake to clear a beaver dam. He uses the shovel to help break up the mud and grass.

Great job. I'm really impressed with you both. One suggestion, if each of you had started on opposite sides, you would have had the water pressure to help on both sides. With one side all the way down the other side will be much harder to clear.

When I get a flow like that, I like to do what I call the shimmy method to loosen the mud. I get the rake out like you are all doing around this time 30:00 and just do quick small forward and backwards loosening motions. Like a couple inches each time forward and back. Slowly moving towards yourself. That way the water pressure pulls the mud you are loosening so you don’t just get one rake full, you get multiple as you move.

Our response to this is what it always is. There is no where else to put it. We are not going to spend hours lifting and throwing every branch onto the bridge to then have to pick it up again to put somewhere else. There are no banks to put it on. Also, wood is good to leave in water as it helps other water wildlife. We understand not everyone likes that we do it but this is how we will continue to do it when there is no other choice.

Kim is doing it right. Take the top off first so you do not lose all the water pressure. Then work on the base.

I wouldn’t be able to do that in jeans. It has to be so hot. I would go to the thrift store and try to find some golf type pants. It would be way easier to move around in and way less hot. Props for being able to handle that.

You'd get eaten alive by mosquitoes not to mention ticks. Most golf pants are polyester blend; they don't breathe as well as denim(cotton.)

I’ve heard that beavers build back bigger and better dams every time their dams are removed. This one has a very wide base, so this dam must have been destroyed several times.
