Claro que no, la cumbia colombiana no se baila igual. bailar cumbia es todo un rito y sensualidad, nada de brincar ni dar tantas vueltas y más vueltas. La cumbia se baila con frenesí.

Although dance competition salsa sometimes goes too far in the dancing couple moves and outfits only to be impressive, check out for other salsa dance videos, especially if they are done by people who just love salsa and are not showing off in any contest or in front of an audience. Those don't do the real thing. Then you'll see how _real_ salsa is danced. Not the fake stuff that you see in TV contests and shows. Look for some Latino people dancing salsa in some wedding, party or something. THAT is the true stuff. Oh! Check out for videos of famous salsa bands in public fairs, you'll see the people in arena dancing the real thing. The common folk.

My favorite type of music to dance to is merengue. It is very fast and upbeat. Salsa is also upbeat, from what I understand, but not as fast as merengue.

Keep in mind that Cumbia & Vallenato = both authentic from Colombia; Salsa = Cuba; Merengue & Bachata = both Dominican Republic. It's just that Colombia embraces them all. The others just spread all over the Latin countries around the Caribbean due to marketing and promotion, just like that awful reguetón and urbano have become a worldwide plague these days.
