Great video, we're starting the Cumbria way in two weeks time and plan to camp around Tarn Hows day 1. Would you recommend it for a wild camp or would you push on a little further and find somewhere a little higher?

Strangely, when I did the CW that was my plan as well. However, Tarn Hows is very busy and more so in the holiday season so there are a lot of people around at all times of the day, plus actual spots are quite difficult to find. If you push on a little further there is a small body of water (unnamed) marked on the map just on the east side of the trail that is a good spot. Best to fill up with water as you're passing through Coniston or the stream that runs into the Tarn at the North end. In addition to watching the rest of the series of which there there are three more videos, I have a video on 4 season sleep system which I filmed at the very spot I am describing, you can grab this from the channel page. Hope that helps and best of luck with your adventure.

@@AmblingTrails thanks alot. I was thinking it may be a little busy, plus there are three of us so it'll be hard to be discreet. I'll check the map and look for the body of water you're describing. Will check out the rest of your trip. Subbed. Keep the vids coming 👌

I live in Ulverston and did the walk from here to Coniston for the first time ever, a couple of weeks ago. Route finding is a bit patchy in places, because I think that some home owners have tried to hide the official foot path which goes through their land. Was a very wet trip and I struggled near the end, due to lack of fitness, but I hope to try for the full Cumbria Way some time.

Totally agree that some home owners not totally encouraging the use of Public Footpaths, but the more we use the paths the tracks left behind hopefully encourages more to their use. Must admit, I’m struggling this time of year with fitness levels due to the restricted opportunity to get out, the weather has curtailed a few trip so well done on you finishing your Coniston leg against the rain, that would have been tough this time of the year. Best of luck with your crack at the full way.

Excellent part 1. I enjoyed your observations of the unusual. Yeah that gate was easily 17th C or earlier. Full view with my foot in an ice bucket. All the best. Mark

I wish I watched your video properly before I did my first stretch... I did not see this little waymark on the ground before Keldray Farm. Took me ages to figure it out lol. Nice vid. Thank you.

Thanks for the tips, your gps shows a different route through the farms than the o/s maps

Yes you'r completely right, it was a bit of a shock to discover the GPS route was slightly different than my 'map' route which was Harveys. Thanks for watching and enjoy the series.
