I'll definitely be hanging out here quite a bit! Sticky toffee pudding is called that only because "pudding" in the UK mostly just means dessert...of any kind. "How can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat?!" ;) It's a super moist cake made from dates and containing treacle (which is super similar to molasses..you may have seen a treacle tart at tea), the covered in a toffee sauce.
@TravelTouristVideos2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info on pudding & treacle- we didn't exactly know what they were but tasted good lol 😁

Mushy peas are a staple in a British "Chippy", not for everyone but if you are going for the authentic British way of eating your fish and chips ditch the lemon and tartar sauce and add brown malt vinegar and salt.... the lemon and tartar sauce are still ok though.

Hi Joann and David, I love fish and chips and that looked yummy. The beef pie of the day was the first I've seen of something like that. I agree with Joann, I'm not a pea aficionado but maybe mashed like that with some spices??? Thanks as always. Hi from Bob and Jill in Connecticut
@TravelTouristVideos2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob & Jill- thanks so much for the comment! 😊 That was the best fish & chips we've tried at sea for sure 😋. The mushy peas were interesting- it was nice to find out that's suppose to go with the fish & chips. Yeah that beef pie was unique & pretty tasty- it reminded of beef & ale stew so I just named it that.

My friend had flown on the Cunard Queen Victoria before. He told me that Cunard’s food choices are less than those on other large cruise ships. There are only three free restaurants to choose from in the cabins.
@TravelTouristVideos6 ай бұрын
They don’t have a ton of choices but the food quality is some of the best we’ve experienced among all the different cruise lines we sailed with.

tks for showing the food you had on board ( i have watched a couple of your videos on QM2). the food was better looking and many choices compared to some of the cruises i had done in southeast asia... judging from your videos , there were no below average / bad food on board ...... not at all ????? there were bad ones on my previous trips. am thinking of joining QM2 early next year...... and sure want to test it out..
@TravelTouristVideos2 жыл бұрын
Actually there were a few that were kind of iffy and we decided not to show a tasting of those. 😁 But in general the food was very good on the level of Holland America & Celebrity cruises.

As a Brit I wouldn't even consider fish and chips without mushy peas (when we go to the chip shop I always get extra 😋)....but well done for having a go if you don't like peas 👍 We tend to use the word 'pudding' interchangeably with dessert - I believe in the US pudding is more like a blancmange? But when I was young a pudding was usually a flour/suet type cake which was steamed. It could contain jam (roly poly) or currants (spotted dick) and was very stodgy and served with hot custard 🔥
@truth40042 жыл бұрын
Pudding in the US is like thick custard.
@TravelTouristVideos2 жыл бұрын
That great to know- we always love to hear what the traditional way of how certain dishes are. Yeah in the US pudding is usually is a more gelatinous, custard-like dessert. Thank you so much for your comment! 😊

Let you in a little secret when you see the word pudding on a British ocean liner it just is a generic word for dessert it's not as precise as the Americans would use to work for an actual type of dessert so when you see the word pudding in England or on English liner it uses just means dessert

Years ago when you ordered fish and chips . The cod portion was an entire fillet and the chips were about 2.5 kilo . ( 1 portion of chips used to feed a family of 5 ) I don't mind they are have reduced the portion of cod to 1/2 or a 3rd the size . But I hate the scattering of chips to create surface area . It looks miserable...it should be a pile of chips to create "over flowing " or stacked I'm not a fan of mushy peas but that's how the North of England... done it . Pies I love - it was always steak and kidney growing up . The Indian looks OK- it is just pub food ...its most certainly not a good representation of what Indian restaurants in the UK bang out . The British dishes look more on par with a wetherspoons pub ( cheap chain ) , Than a luxury liner , they should really be doing better . Since Cunard is meant to be the top tier of cruising Being British- its a little bit embarrassing looking at those meals - they look "low-end " pub meals , rather than what you can get - for the sake of 20p's worth of chips they would rather create miserable looking

Thanks- appreciate a Brit's take. As for the portions, one nice thing here is that you can order as much as you can eat.
@voodooguy2 Жыл бұрын
The fish batter is not dark enough and the chips are not even remotely close to proper chippy chips. I'll let the 'minted' mushy peas slide as Cunard is obviously trying to be posh. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE ANEMIC-LOOKING CRUMBLE - it looked like it had come out of the oven 15 minutes too early. The cauliflower pie and the curry looked standard pub fare. Oh, and the sticky toffee pudding looked authentic.

I just had the fish and chips this past week on the Queen Elizabeth. My husband had the fish and chips and the fries were lukewarm, fish OK. I had a burger and asked for it Med Rare. I was told they were all well done because they were “pre-cooked”. Biggest disappointment and a perfect way to ruin a hamburger… might as well have been Whataburger ( even THAT would have tasted better), fries were awful. I have to say the food was the biggest disappointment on Cunard, and I heard sooo many good reviews. I have traveled on Princess, Royal C, Holland A, Norwegian and Celebrity (our favorite) and never been gone for almost 2 weeks and NOT had a meal to rave about. Main dining had lots of fancy descriptions for every course but most often items were bland especially the soups. The closest we came to a lobster was lobster bisque which tasted like weak tomato soup w tiny bits of shrimp. Sad, sad, sad. I can understand one or two meals bing bland but most along w pastries just a huge disappointment. I will say the scones and clotted cream and jam at afternoon tea were excellent…but an ice cream machine in the lido I guess was better than none…sorry to be a Debbie downer but I wish I’d read this review before I went. I will say service was excellent, library the best I’ve seen on a big ship, and the bear excursion phenomenal--also getting in so close at Glacier Bay and Hubbard was the bomb. Definitely happy I had a balcony. Happy Cruisin!

Are they children's portions. The ploughman's lunch? Never seen anything like it. Minted mushy peas - an aberration, not one single fish and chip shop in the UK would serve that. Only in gastro pubs and faux high end restaurants trying to be 'cheffy' would ruin basic, simple mushy peas.
