Cunard's QE2 and QM2 at sea in Tandem Transatlantic Sailing - 16th to 22nd October 2008

We have left New York and we are now at sea. The crossing was magnificent. Queen Elizabeth II swapped from Portside to Starboard each day until the final evening when, after a very emotional Horn Salute and address from Commodore Warner, she eased back to follow Queen Mary II into Southampton. It was an amazing historical journey and one that I will treasure in my memory forever.

Sailed on the QM2 twice and I love her. She really does hold a special place in my heart. But QE2 is the last true built in Britain ocean liner. Magnificent

How odd to see this, I was on for the 2004 Tandem Crossing with QM2 when she was brand new, weird to think this was their last one together...that's only a few short years' difference! QE2's whistle brings tears to my eyes, no lie. She was a HUGE part of my teenage years, and I had the passenger decks memorized like the back of my hand. I miss that ship, but I'm glad something finally came of her and they at LONG last opened her up as an hotel a couple years back. Truly a legend. QM2 is coming along nicely in her own right, however (I was just on her in October, she's definitely developed a character since I was on her in 2004). But there will always be only one Queen Of The Seas, and that's Queen Elizabeth 2! Thanks for the wonderful footage, by the way, this is some of the best from that crossing I've seen on here!

Wonderful! Brought a tear to my eye! I know that QM2's whistles were matched with an original from the first Queen Mary but am I unusual in believing that QE2's whistle is(was!) far the better? The pitch was just right and that sound.......went right through you, to carry for miles. Beautiful!

QE2 is such a beautiful ship. One of the biggest regrets I have is not getting the chance to sail on her. I was lucky enough to go on board while she was in Southampton in 1994 after her refit in Bremerhaven, and have always treasured the memories of that experience because it felt like being on board a proper ocean liner. She's recently opened in Dubai as a floating hotel and many of her interior spaces have been kept as they were in 2008 when she retired, so I hope to go and visit her again soon :)

A mate of mine worked on the plumbing of QE 2 when it was built on the river Clyde Scotland .RIP Col Cougan .

Yes, enjoying the QE2's magnificent lines which are a lot nicer than that of the new cruise ships today but not as nice as the old Cunard Queens. I always thought this ship should have had two funnels more traditionally shaped.

I remember when the ship was new and how disappointed I was compared to the old Queens. In time I got used to it, but to this day that single, funny-looking funnel bugs me! :-) Thanks for the video and your reply.

queen mary 2 queen elizabeth 2 and titanic are the speed machine over 35 mph before you start disagreing titanic went 2600 mile in 3 days 11 hour 40 minute average speed 31 mph and it went slow at the start and speed up
