“Not all those who wander are lost.”
Of course, you can’t come to Cunnamulla without stopping at the iconic Cunnamulla Fella Statue, made famous by Slim Dusty’s song. The statue depicts a typical Aussie bushman sitting on his swag enjoying the moment. Our next stop was the Visitor Centre to get a town map and source a list of things to see and do during our 4-night stay.
Our best picks for things to see and do in Cunnamulla:
1. Cunnamulla Fella Centre, Art Gallery and Museum
The visitor centre houses a local art gallery, a museum which has an extensive collection of local artefacts and the Cultural Theatre - a small entrance fee is payable and well worth it.
2. Artesian Time Tunnel
The interactive Artesian Time Tunnel transports visitors back 100 million years in time to the beginning of the Artesian Basin when dinosaurs roamed the planet …. sooo cool!!!
3. Cunnamulla War Memorial Fountain
This impressive memorial, dedicated to those who died during World War I, was built in Brisbane in 1924.
4. Warrego River Walk
A pleasant walking trail beside the river with interpretative signage which identifies the vegetation and the wildlife.
5. Alan Tannock Weir
The locals told us that this is the best place for fishing, especially when the Warrego River is in flood, say no more …. Count us in!
Our visit to Cunnamulla was made perfect thanks to our wonderful stay at the fabulous WARREGO RIVERSIDE TOURIST PARK, a ripper place. We give it 5 stars!!!
Time to hit the road!
