I love how you explained different ways of settings in detail. Well planned & presented. I have 2 questions: #1: how do you use the lapel mic & a USB mic simultaneously in zoom without changing the mic source? #2: is there any way to do advanced audio setting in zoom for students who use iPad/iPhone to make the audio sound better? On my end their sound is a bit unstable, kind of in and out. One advise I got is to have students place their device about 6 feet away, but that means they can’t see the screen that well if I need to demo something, share my screen or sheet music from my music app on iPad. Thanks in advanced for your input.

Thank you for your great, detailed videos! Have you had any recent issues with your ATEM, by chance? I've been using it to teach piano online since March, and about 2 weeks ago, my Canon Vixia HR f800 stopped giving me a picture. zoom recognizes the ATEM, but the picture is black. Tested it on Skype and Cisco Webex, as well. I've checked on the BlackMagic Forum and others seem to be having the same issue. No picture. Thanks!

Thanks for another terrific video, Hugh. I’ve learned so much from both this video and your previous one (teaching online lessons). I had a couple of questions: a. If I’m using only one USB mic, such as the Snowball, could you comment on the three settings it offers (at least on mine)? Should I opt for the omnidirectional setting to capture both my speaking and playing? b. When using another device as an additional visual (instead of a webcam), how do you overcome the feedback issues that often come with having a mic next to a speaker? Thank you so much.

Lots of good ideas here. Thank you for this and your other videos. 2 or 3 short questions: 1). I've heard good things about the NewZik app, but there's an older more popular app called forScore. Do you prefer NewZik? If so, why? 2). I think you are using an iPadAir, as opposed to the more expensive iPadPro. Do you find this cheaper device sufficient for all your needs? 3). There doesn't seem to be a way to completely solve latency issues, whether they're caused by the Zoom software, or whatever. Is this true?
@CunninghamPiano4 жыл бұрын
1. I've used forScore for years, but have now switched to Newzik - there are many things I am really enjoying about the app - I'll have to do a dedicated review video soon! One of my favorite things is the ability to turn pages with my AirTurn while annotating the music. 2. No, I am using an iPad Pro 12.9 inch. 3. Latency will always exist when communicating in any medium long distance. Try singing "Happy Birthday" at the same time over the phone and you'll see what I mean. The best anyone can do is to try to minimize the amount of latency to under 20 milliseconds, which is the human threshold for detection, but that is difficult to do consistently. It's simply one of the limitations of physics.

What do you recommend for a mic set up for violinists wanting to play over zoom on an iPad only set up?

This is awesome Hugh. Such great tips...I can’t wait to start using my phone as another camera. Could you share the brand of iPad Pro cover you use? Mine has the flip cover which is so cumbersome. Thanks for the great presentation

Hugh - great, informative video. I’m teaching now at home with economical Zoom ipad/iphone setup with USB mic, mainly because all my pro audio gear is in my music studio that I cannot get to! I’ve heard from two sources that if you use Zoom account and desktop audio settings, they will also be represented on your IOS mobile devices. Do you know if this is true or not? Right now I have students using iPads and the sound is terrible, fading in and out. Hopefully they can change settings on a desktop or laptop. Enabling original sound is available on iPad, but nothing else. Thanks!

Thank you - very helpful! Can you connect your iPad and iPhone using the same address that you originated your meeting from, or do you need to use a different e-mail address? I’ve been inviting myself using my home address for my iPhone for camera 2 and my school address for my computer. Maybe I will have better control if I stick with the same e-mail address?

I don't have a 'stereo' option, is that because I have a free version of Zoom? (The same counts for "pinning" a camera)

Might you explain? Did I miss something or did you plug your input microphones into the audio out jack? Everything I've ever used has the microphone plug into a USB port.

The Boya double lavalier microphones plugged into my MacBook's audio out jack - you saw that correctly.

Is it easier to change from one camera to another in zoom than in skype, I mean during the lesson?
@CunninghamPiano4 жыл бұрын
It's about the same process with both applications - a little kludgy with both, but doable. Of course, a physical video switcher is much nicer to work with, but more of an investment.

What do you do if a student has sheet music thats in a book and you won't be able to see it and follow along with it because cause really see the sheet music? what would be best course of action to take?
@CunninghamPiano4 жыл бұрын
Try having your student scan the sheet music or take a picture of it and send it to you. There are a number of good scanning apps for iPhone, iPad and Android.
