Forced diversity quotas are not only illegal due to the fact that there is inherent discrimination against persons based on protected classes but they do little to nothing to solve the underlying issues. They're a haphazard and destructive workaround on the backend. It's an effort to force an outcome without rectifying the disparities which lead to the outcome. These disparities aren't always things that need to be remedied mind you. Like with certain groups gravitating towards certain fields for example. Is it your place to tell Blacks as a demographic to not put so much focus on athletics and sporting competition because you have this idealistic view where you want to see more parity in other fields? How about telling Asians to put more focus on sports and less on STEM to address parity? This notion of race and sex based parity as an ideal is something that needs to end. Insofar as there is an effort to ensure everyone gets a reasonable shot at some point you just have to let the chips rest where they fall.

Lord, people forget that affirmative action and DEI was birthed out of the fact that companies would overlook QUALIFIED diverse candidates to preference white candidates. The assumption that DEI only focuses on bringing in UNQUALIFIED people, is just ignorance. There is also programs that companies attempted to upskill or reskill and provide opportunities for candidates that otherwise wouldn’t get opportunities and there is so much research that shows how companies excel, perform better, higher growth margins, etc. etc. the research is all there. Also, here’s the kicker… white people benefited from this too! Diversity is so vast, it is uneducated to only think in terms of race and gender. The problem lies with white male candidates feeling like they aren’t getting a fair shake because they SEE diversity for roles they believe they should have had. White men particularly have been entitled to job opportunities even when their skillset was mediocre compared to any other type of diverse candidate. So, to say “merit” is really code for saying “white males” who is the audience we are talking about? If folks who lacked opportunity even if qualified were racially diverse, female, neurodivergent or differing abilities, they didnt get past people’s perception of “most qualified” or what they envision in their success profiles around skills and attributes for the role. People, let’s not forget all the disparity in the workforce that has existed for decades. Not everyone was given equal opportunity to compete, and even if they did, they had to overcome the engrained biases of preference and assumptions of fit. “White” does not mean “most qualified” and that’s what this is really all about.

Fact is "YOU CANNOT LEGISLATE THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF PEOPLE" nor can you choose your race, or sex in this life. So why is DEI an issue? Because Democrats made it one with the SCOTUS ruling in 2023 and said colleges were violating the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. Discrimination of race was proven in 6 different cases....YOU SHOULD READ THEM IF YOU HAVEN"T. Democrats took it upon themselves to create DEI within the Federal government polices led by the great Biden that amplified the issue. Of course Democrats had the wind behind there backs with George Floyd, which was politicized to the fullest extent during an election year 2020. BTW, how often has the media reported on unarmed black men being killed by white cops during the past four years under Biden......Watch them amp it up now with the perception it's all because of Trump. But no worries, the stats are in the link below and at the moment Democrats seem to be pro-cop since J6 pardons, but expect the change. Fact is media makes money off of clicks and likes......and what sells....racism, sex and hate! You speak of that code "merit" but "come on" that is a perception and a word change of "dog whistle" comments in the first Trump term by people like Al Sharpton/MSNBC. Also, lets be honest when terms like this is used do you really see it as productive? Does in really promote a conversation or is it a copout of the broader conversation to shut down speech followed by "He or she is just a racist". Help me out, please point to a DEI program that increased teamwork, or that made an organization/company better? Please show the research in which you wrote; I would love to see the standard of measuring that? Surely, we never hear from the media on that positive change where everyone is so happy instead it's always doom and gloom saying "WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAYS TO GO". Tell me how can you mend relationships in a diverse organization when it's constantly the highlight politically. Do we really need to hash out privilege of demographics? Do we need to hash the history of the country? Surely that was covered with the required social science credits for a college degree, right? Why can we simply live by the Golden rule and make every generation better by our contributions. And you're right, "White" doesn't mean you are the "most qualified" so why is the Federal government still collecting data based on race? If this type of data can be used to discriminate maybe race should no longer be on applications? Imagine an HR department concentrating what really matters PEOPLE not POLITICS! www.statista.com/statistics/585152/people-shot-to-death-by-us-police-by-race/ www.latimes.com/politics/story/2023-06-29/supreme-court-strikes-down-affirmative-action-in-college-admissions

I have to disagree. In most European countries a poor person can become a leader. Their education allows for anyone to go to college on merit and not because of the wallet of their parents. I live in Switzerland. I know plenty of farmer’s kids who have become leaders in industry and government. There is no such thing as the greatest country in the world. Every county has its issues, the US has its fair share.

I respect your point and agree that every country has its issues. It’s because we are human. I will say that free education is available here in the US as well. The simplest way to do this is to join the military. I know of quite a few people who have taken advantage of this opportunity.
@ramonanussbaum9 күн бұрын
@ true, but in most European countries, you simply need the grades. When you don’t have the grades for university, there is an apprentice program to still get a decent education. I respectfully say you are comparing apples to oranges. Even with the military, there are limitations. There is a reason why the US rates below Europe in education of its citizens.
@mr50398 күн бұрын
@@ramonanussbaum I’m sure there is a reason rates are lower than Europe but it’s definitely not due to lack of opportunity. This is literally the land of opportunity. The answer to bringing a balance in opportunities between whites and people of color isn’t talent, it’s addressing your own internal cognitive biases. It doesn’t matter how talented someone is, if the person in power is biased for or against a certain group, they will see talent where it isn’t or not see talent where it is. Affirmative action was meant to correct the assumption that black people and other minorities are less capable than white people when accounting for having equal qualifications, during a time when discrimination against non whites was common. I believe DEI was meant to do the same, but was poorly executed, unfortunately. Truth is the average mind doesn’t understand the difference between racism and cognitive bias so it can’t explain to you, without accusing you of being racist, that people in power may need to be assessed for racial biases before being put in positions that can affect people’s lives. But that’s what needs to happen. Because our beliefs affect our decision making, people that have the power to bring or take away opportunities need to be assessed for racial biases before they are put in those positions. And having racial biases doesn’t necessarily mean one is racist in character, as racism is an idea, not an inherent quality of human beings. If you identify with ideas, then, I mean, sure. But if we are going to get past the issue of race, people must have the courage to examine themselves, what they believe about identity, and why. Anyway, I blather 😉 ❤
