I have both PC and Console and with PC the big difference is once you download the game you can back the files up and have them on a drive so in theory if steam goes away you still have the game files

Man this is a touchy subject especially for those of us who are older, I see both sides and no one is wrong but unfortunately those of us who prefer physical copies lost this battle a decade ago we haven’t been getting full games on media in a long time anyway all we own is a .50 cent plastic box with a .50 cent disc that initiates a 60-150GB download that isn’t on the media you own lol. What’s there to do but just accept it.

That’s true of western AAA companies but of all but the most graphically intense Japanese games they are complete on disc or cart with a few exceptions Square Enix is notorious for locking out important game features behind a paywall same with Sega .

In most Japanese games the base game is fully playable from start to finish they do love day one DLC though NIS is infamous for dlc nickel and dimeing fans and capcom is disgusting with there practices anybody remember on disc DLC capcom where the first to introduce it as far as I know. Nintendo seems to be doing away with season passes for there in house games as well as DLC I’m actually shocked there was no dlc for Tears of the Kingdom

⁠@@jdxcoffee The day everything goes digital is the day I retire as a gamer and go retro gaming. My backlog is so big that I can't finish them all in this life time. You can't sell your physical games. I got Tears of the Kingdom practically free because I sold Breath of the Wild and another Switch game I don't play anymore on Ebay. For people to lazy to go to their local Gamestop, they can have it shipped to them and most people have Amazon prime and can get it shipped directly to them in just a few days.

I used to be a diehard physical media person... Now I love having every game I own on an SD card for my switch.. don't need to bring any games with, I am worried about being able to access these games if the store shuts down or whatever... But for now I'm kinda digging having all my games on the console.

I think the biggest thing, is games are giving more perks for digital editions. I was planning to get Spider-Man 2 physically but it was convenient to get it at home and play at midnight and not drive 20 minutes to GameStop. Also I live in the Midwest and I’m waiting on grand blue fantasy but it comes out in February where it’s not the safest to drive extra besides work and home. I’m also a pc gamer and looking at my collection on steam gives me the same feelings as if it they were physical, but it doesn’t take up the space in my apartment since they’re digital.

Digital is a stepping stone to streaming. Then the corporations will have full ownership. And Microsoft is trying to change their open source for gaming on PC. Yes this is important. Major car manufacturers are trying to control their software/Hardwear so private autoshops will pay them or close. It is apart of a much bigger issue as the world becomes more digital.

I buy the majority of my games on PC. I do that because I trust steam more than I trust Microsoft and Sony as it pertains to digital purchases. Even when I buy a game on Sony or Microsofts digital store, I'll end up buying it in PC also. I'm a console and PC gamer.

I’ve experienced digital games not always playing forward on the next gen consoles (especially the fruit tablet/phone) probably due to licensing issues or complications due to developer/publishers being acquired. Regardless as a console gamer I believe this is a lesser issue for PC gaming as PCs are upgradable and can continue playing previously purchased digital content as long as online services such as steam remains relevant rather than “new” consoles which usually means rebuying all over again.

As a PC gamer I already dont own nothing. We have been all digital forever now. since early 2000. Do I like it NO but as a PC gamer we are kind of stuck. Consoles will inevitably go that route also. What really sucks tho is this and ive said this before. all Digital is NOT the future because there are people who dont have access to internet or have slow internet or have internet with caps or what happens when you get in a pickle financially and cant afford your internet and it gets shut off. This means you wont be able to download any of your games. This happened to me once before i got laid off and lost my internet and I had to drag my PC to a friends just to download games. Also what happened to digital being cheaper then physical. On consoles digital is way more expensive then a disc and PC. Our digital prices are always crazy low even on new games. You can get alan wake 2 right now for 41 bucks where as on consoles its $60

You made some great points! Digital is amazing because it's all on your system and no need to drag physical copy's around Physical is great for the art of the game especially the steelbooks and also you can sell the games and put money towards new ones. Since I got a Series S as my second console last year now I'm gonna get every xbox game digitally and the game isn't on the disc much for Xbox. I still buy physical for Nintendo Switch and PS5 because of resale in future. CD Keys website is a great way to get digital games at a great price. The new Xbox in 2028 might be digital only with a extra cost to add a external disc drive so that's more reason to go digital. Digital feels more future proof with Xbox because of cloud streaming and the fact its my main platform. Might even pick up the leaked Series X that comes out next year. Fun fact I was planning to get the digital ps5 but that thing was sold out in 2020 so I ended up with the physical one so that's why I decided to pick up physical games and also I do like how much better the ps5 cased look than Xbox. Xbox keeps changing their cases and that annoys me because it's like they don't care

Games are not piece of art anymore. They are more like consume and throw. You don't collect these stuff. Even if the game is a piece of art , the company will milk it for decades(skyrim) and you can enjoy it for ever.

Here's the thing...Increasingly, you don"t own the game in either case. The majority of the game is no longer stored on the physical disk. These companies can prevent you from playing a game, no matter how you purchased it.

Switch games are usually pretty good at having games on the cart. Later versions of Nintendo developed games will even be updated with the current updates and dlc.

I was totally on board with the all digital future and my opinion has now changed. What changed my mind you ask? Part nostalgia for sure. I grew up with the NES and I started to miss having those physical copies in my hand. Second, sharing those games with my kids that all have a Switch! Third, being able to buy and sell those games as I see fit. We are losing so much control letting these companies force us to go digital. I’m actually letting my Xbox Gamepass expire soon because I just don’t see the value anymore. And last but not least, those Switch cases look so good on the shelf. 😅

Since i got my switch i have embraced the digital world for a few reasons: 1. Is easy. All you need is to purchase the game online and is automatically downloaded to your console. 2. Cost savings. There are mode sales on the digital store than on physical copies. 3. Library. There is much more content digitally that physical. The digital side of things makes sense. However, I do prefer to have my physical copy. Knowing that i own the game no matter what happens to the company is good. I can also borrow the game or even sale it. I will always be a physical gamer mode than digital but I also know that in some years the physical copies will completely disappear and we will be all digital. I know i don't have to like the idea but i have come to accept it.

The dumbest cliche going is "You will own nothing and be happy." If you've been a PC gamer the past 20 years, you haven't "owned" a physical game. You never did. When you buy a game, even a physical copy, you only pay for the LICENSE. Games will be like movies. Nobody buys $20-$30 DVD or Bluray anymore. Everybody streams from Netflix. Guess what, people are happy. I had hundreds of DVDs that I spent THOUSANDS of dollars on over the past 25 years. I had to get rid of them because they were taking too much space in my home. I had all movies in my Plex server in better picture and sound quality. And so convenient to use. I tried to sell them and nobody wanted them. I wound up throwing them away. I lost thousands of dollar. Was I happy doing that? Nope. All digital streaming and cloud gaming is the future. Suck it up.

Maybbe for xbox but physical sales are still strong elsewhere. Not only were sony the first company to allow small publishers print runs as low as 1k, they still do it. Nintendo started letting this happen when the switch came out or a little after. Now the big part Digital vs physical. Its all bs really. Not only do some sites, charts, graph, lump mobile gaming into them but... How many games out there(console wise) dont have a physical release. Probably over half. So one of them(digital games) sells and physical never really had a chance. How many people would of bought baldurs gate 3 physically had it released at the same time? I personally waited cause i had a feeling theyd have a change of heart. Thank you larian. So anyway theres more lost sales under the physical column cause some bought digital anyway, the physical news came a few weeks after the digital release. Alan wake 2, yet another big game with no physical, so all their sales are again going under the digital column with no physical to compare it to. This one i refuse to buy, shame to cause i was excited for it. I wont pay more then 20 dollars for a digital game i just cant. Also imo no aaa game should be able to go without a physical release. Theyve no excuse. To reiterate this was just a couple of examples, theres plenty more. So in the end no sh theres more digital sales then physical sales , physical is severly misrepresented. I think i seen a graph that showed playstation was something 60% digital, 40% physical. Imagine that number if every game released physical. Id wager the physical percentage would be higher or atleast a bit more neck and neck. For the record i believe nintendos ratio were a bit higher then sonys. Speaking of nintendo. Hope everyone downloaded what they could on the wii u and 3ds digital stores. Thanks digital 👎
