I have gamer culture/media fatigue as much as I have gaming fatigue. I started taking a different approach to my purchases. 1. As often as I can, wait for a sale (with Nintendo, this is almost impossible) 2. Read no reviews. Only watch previews. 3. Approach a game like I did as a child, look at the pretty pictures on the back of the box (watch videos or view the pictures in the steam game profile) 4. Pay no mind to the "journalist."

Another amazing conversation, Julien! In fact, social media and market might be the main cause of gaming fatigue. There really seems to be something special about that time we had fewer games to play, but spent more time with them. I believe one of the ways you can break free from fatigue is to try and play older games you already played and enjoyed a lot. Play just for the joy of it. It's a great way to prove to yourself you don't need the "newest best thing", and that playing for fun is what this hobby is all about.

Dude the that’s something I’ve also been doing. It’s very hard to manage all when you have so many games releasing with so much hype, the key is to step back play a few games you’ve intended on playing and then figure out if you actually wanted to play that new release; now that the hype is over.
@daviddamasceno6063

@@DeanT1987 Yeah, the best moment to buy a new game is when it's on sale for the first time. It usually happens 6 months to a year from release. By then you're not clouded by the mainstream hype anymore and you know for sure if it's a game you really want to play. Not to mention you can save a lot of money.

SORRY FOR THIS LONG MESSAGE. THIS FELT LIKE IT WAS FOR ME. This is probably one of my favorite videos you have made for sure!! I was actually going to make a comment asking if you could make a video about this subject because so one is doing it and I have felt alone. I took a break from gaming from 2017 and then got back in during covid in 2020. I played games all the time as a child and was always able to play a couple games and be happy. The past year or 2 I have been playing a lot of games feeling like i had to catch up with what I missed out on and what new games are coming out. And I feal that fatique!!! For me its even worse because I feel like if I dont buy it will disappear or I am missing out😂. Its become a weird addiction where I am always buying new gaming gear or games and then I always feel empty in the end its super weird. Thank you for this video I feel like I need to go back to the roots and focus on a few that my time allows and that I enjoy and not worry about what the next best thing is. I will get to it. Although with a 3 year old as well as another on the way. Being married, doing school and working full time. In reality I realize I cant play my massive backlog and play what I have and what I want to play and then after that maybe buy a game. Any more videos and advice you can give on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Finding the time and not being exhausted every day from work plays into a lot of that fatigue. At least for myself anyway. Real-world events that are happening right now kind of take my time as well. There is so much going on. I like the format, though, man. As a father myself, it's nice not having some guy screaming all over the place and cutting to a meme every 5 seconds. Nice to turn off my brain, have a cup of Joe, and just listen to some gaming content. Keep up the good work. 👍

#1 keep the coffee process going. Thankyou for the new "hobby." Buying a gooseneck next. That being said i get gaming fatigue OFTEN. Ive sold SO MANY consoles in the past, regret it and rebuy everything because it comes back to me. I have other hobbies such as cars, vinyl music media (audiophile) and vintage trains. I realize now to keep everything because i have kids, that if i get tired of playing, listening etc to my hobbies, i can pass them on. It happens. Thats adulting plus alot of todays versions of long lasting hobbies are more expensive or have too much of a modern touch and it changes as time goes on. I prefer "vintage" games (PS1-3) vs newer games. I miss the "heres your game on a disc" era.

This was such a great discussion, I’ve been feeling like this lately. Overstimulated to the max with all these decisions of games, what to buy & by time I go to play I just don’t want to. Thanks for the advice & sharing your experience. Btw love the sit down making coffee vibe & the no editing, it’s a nice flow to the video & real. Refreshing to see nowadays especially in the gaming community.

Totally understand. Sometimes I'm there starting at the homepage with all my systems and finding nothing to play. Lately I got into a mindless fun game, something that I wasn't expecting to get hooked on compared to a Triple A game. It's called Brotato and it's something that doesn't require too much thinking, and is a rogue like game and somehow i'm playing that more than the new titles like Spiderman and Wonder. Weird right? But it was just mindless fun. The meaning of this was to say I agree with you.

This hits right in the feels... can totally relate. I took a huge break from gaming from 2001 to near 2016. Started with the Wii U, then Switch. Got the PS5 in 2021 and XBox in 2022. Gaming is really a time sucker, but it is a fun & engaging hobby. The issue that many have said is that I have played catch up on so many great games I've missed from the past... especially from PS & XBox. Not to mention great new games that come out. The last few years there's only a handful of games I buy day one, the rest can wait for a sale usually. But man o' man... I am playing so many games at one time. A friend of mine only focuses on one game at a time, finishes it, then moves on to the next. Not me, some will keep my focus more at one time until I finish it, but with others I bounce around so much probably b/c I like so many of them. Won't shy away from help or counseling on this topic... Keep it up !

The timing of your videos are always in sync with what I’m doing lol… this year in particular has been pretty tough because of the amount of solid games that we’ve gotten and the amount of hype behind them, unfortunately many of us fall victim to that more than we want to admit . You describing “you” inadvertently describes “me”. It’s so funny that you’ve made this 3 game completion system because that’s exactly what I’ve been doing the last 4 months. I have 3 games to complete once I complete one the next one gets put in on the backlog and so on. Right now as you may know I’m working on Ghostwire Tokyo, Alan Wake 2, and then FF16 in that order, with some Halo infinite/MW in between for the multiplayer. I’ve caught myself many times getting hyped over some new release then completely dismissing a game I’m currently working on or that I’ve been attempting to play, I’ve found no satisfaction in that whatsoever and it’s pure impulsive behavior. Solid video as always, I respect the “Grind” 😉

I'm pretty good at just deciding on a game in the backlog and jumping straight in. Only caveat is 'mood' and try and rotate challenging games with relaxing ones. My fatigue problem is I can only play one game at a time, and I have to finish the story (not necessarily complete 100%), before I move on. Am finding, even if I'm enjoying the game I get fatigued towards the end, but cannot/will not move on. I think because I know I probably won't go back. I'm about 15 hours into Persona 5 Royal, and know its 100 hours...and whilst enjoying it, its starting to fill me with dread knowing that's it for the next month or two. 😂

Love these kind of videos Julien! Really enjoying the conversations you are engaging with us about video games. It does suck how marketing and a huge influx of reviews on certain games really can overpower and feel overwhelming when we are looking into purchasing a game. The main point I would say is listen to the reviews but play the game anyways if you think you are going to enjoy it no matter what the reviewers are saying I say play it because not everything they talk about will affect the Individual who will enjoy the game despite some flaws that people may have felt

The marketing and discourse aspect happened to me with Starfield. I got the constellation edition preordered because I was so stoked for a new Bethesda game, and even was enjoying the game when it came out. Then I took a break from it for a work trip and the discourse of the game got so negative about how the game was mediocre and flawed that it took all my enjoyment out in trying to get back to it. I even sold my collectors edition on ebay because it felt like a wrong purchase.

consumerism as a hobby is an easy thing to fall into vs doing the actual hobby one intended to. influencers and content creators and marketers perpetuate the latest and greatest, and the feeling that one needs to "keep up" to be a real gamer or "in the know" or whatever. i dont think you intended any malice but it's so easy for stuff to become another form of advertisement or promotion or trend-chasing. i think if we can find ways to enjoy and connect with games that fit into our lives and where we are at... learn to share experiences with loved ones.... do more without the focus of creating a product or content for public consumption... we will find a lot more fulfillment... or see where we need to supplement our life beyond gaming, whether that be fitness, friendships, forgotten hobbies, etc. i studied marketing/advertising and design so with enough time came to a similar perspective to the one you're sharing here. i wish you the best as you're in a complex position as a content creator focused on gaming, so there's an inherent conflict of interest and question of what to discuss or share here next, if not going with the trends.

on your point about games like MW3, my issue with a game like COD is that they set an expectation, and the latest game seems to have lowered the bar, yet they charge the same price for a lesser experience. It's like shrinkflation, which is frustrating. would I still like to sink into the MP, heck ya, but I don't want to spend 80 dollars to do it. with all of this said, I fully agree with your points made in this one. I doom scroll game deals, whether it's on NSO or PSN, in search for that sick deal. great vids, keep em coming!
