I have experienced ranking obsession with a few games, especially games that have online ranking. I aim for top ten. Thankfully not #1 that would have taken ages. Sad thing is when you end up in top 10 it only takes a day or two or even less before you get kicked down from your spot. Great video! I enjoyed watching it.

Great video man! You were really speaking my mind there. I stopped with that obsession though because it kind of ruined video games for me. Idk if you were joking at the end but have you had an experience after which it got harder for you to enjoy video games?

Was just a joke! I've had moments where I had to take a short break from a game for a few hours and then come back, but nothing more

@@BoldlyWired I've burnt myself out of *Animal Crossing* of all games obsessing over what I wanted to do and seeing streamers and their "finished" towns. I've also burnt myself out of classic DooM (modded) for weeks at a time because I can't stand taking major damage or deviating from my planned route. In my experience, the obsession, the self-imposed unrealistic expectations, and the frustration blend into a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure. It doesn't help that my relationship with my parents primed me to seek perfectionism; I became obsessed with pleasing them and avoiding their disapproval. I consumed myself turning what I wanted to be relaxing or cathartic journeys into harrowing rat-races.

Great video! Just beat Cuphead for the first time two days ago and a lot of this rings true. Although (maybe this was added in an update) the Fork NPC in world 3 does hint that A ranking a lot of bosses will unlock a filter for the visuals.

Now that you mention it, I remember that from my first playthrough. Totally blanked out on that while making the video

Cala Maria is so frustrating! The last phase is so luck based that getting and A or S is super difficult

I experienced this same thing when I played a game called Racetime on the Google Play Store. The weird part is I was never really into climbing up the score ladder and just accepted that people will be better than me at the game. What makes Racetime interesting is that the leaderboard resets everyday meaning there is a chance that you can be in the top 20 for that day. I think that's what got me invested in that game.

This was interesting as my experience was a little different. Once I gained a substantial amount of knowledge of how the game operates (which occurred around the time I reached World 3), the bosses that I found to be the most challenging were paradoxically the ones that I A-ranked after only one successful attempt. This probably happened because after spending so much time with a given boss, their patterns became so immeshed in my head that I remembered them long after beating them. To be more specific, most of the bosses from World 3 and the Finale took me anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours. There was only one boss which took me this long that I had to redo to get an A-rank (Phantom Express, and the bulk of that time was spent trying to figure out the weird hitboxes for each phase). The two bosses which took less time for me to beat than that (Brineybeard and Sally Stageplay) are also some of the only bosses from that section which I had to redo to get an A-rank. TL;DR: I found that the harder bosses were actually “easier” to get A-ranks on. If this comes off as a humblebrag, I didn’t mean for it to :| I just found it interesting how the difficulty of the game could produce such a reaction like yours.

And then once you FINALLY get A- or higher on all the bosses... you realize that there's an even higher rank, S, for beating all the bosses perfectly on Expert mode... Yay....

I personally don't care about the ranks. I generally don't care about getting 100% in most games. My challenge was just completing the game again on expert.

I know this video is ten months old.. but im kind aobsessed with that ranking system aswell.. For me as an example, Im playing league of legends now since 8 years, trying to reach Master, this year I played overall over 1000+ games (each game takes with champs elect / loading screen about 40 - 55mins) to acoomplish my goal, but I never could and im still stuck between Diamond II and DIamond I (Thats 2 divisions underneath master but I wont explain the rank system now because im not there for that).. Overall i still try to reach the goal that hopefully i can say that one day, Im master, but thats really hard because you are only climbing the ladder if u win your games, if u loose, no matter how well u played u get punished for that, so you end up playing like 6-9hours at a weekendday to figure out that you are still at the same position in the ladder as u was before at the end of the day... It feels like a waste of time at the end and a lot of people get mixed feelings when you start taking the ranking system in league of legends seriously...(I talked with a lot of pople who felt sad because they werent able to reach her own personal goals in that ranking system) Also there is a website for this game called www.leagueofgraphs.com where you can see your performance / winrate on a specific champion that you are playing / "maining". And there you get a rank aswell.. and this Graphs makes me kinda nervous because when I start playing on my Evelynn account whos currently still in the top 100 of the best evelynn mains on EUW I start to revisit the site over and over again after my games when I win or loose, just to see if I get kicked out of the top 100 or not and thats kinda pressuring me... Overall I want to say is, that maybe we should stop looking at thisgrades / ranks / perfomances etc. because at the end of the day we won´t get something out of it and it shouldnt matter how much you are climbing in games overall Also.. if u want to check out how im doing currently.. heres the link www.leagueofgraphs.com/summoner/euw/NebenbeiWeilTilt you can see my performance / rank at the right side of the evelynn mains on EUW Edit: I mainly forgot to say thank you if u have read my comment and Im just wishing you a good day, take care c:
