Fun fact: UN Village (pronounced like U.N. Village -- like United Nations -- UN) is a real place in Korea, it's a ritzy, trendy neighborhood in Korea where some of the top celebrities and idols live. For example, some of the members of BigBang have apartments in UN Village. The area is known for it's cool architecture and landscapes and I think some of this MV was either shot in UN Village or, at the very least, the sets were meant to emulate the look of UN Village. So Baekhyun has said that the song is supposed to make listens feel like they want to take their date to UN Village and wander through the streets and buildings while whispering words of love in their ear, etc. Yes, Baekhyun is one of the top vocalists in the industry and that is why he is one of the three main vocalist in EXO. He is known for his high notes, ad libs and runs.(He kind of surprised all of us with this one. Before the song was released, we all were trying to guess what kind of style and sound his first album was going to have. And, although this style totally makes sense for him, I don't think many were anticipating it would be quite this soulful.) "UN Village" and his album City Lights is his solo debut. Also, as a member of EXO, Baekhyun's superpower is the ability to control light. So, although "UN Village" is a love song and he is singing to and about a girl and about her light, the lyrics are also referencing the fact that his superpower is the ability to control light. The lyrics have a double meaning -- it's about love, but it's also about how he can literally turn off the street lights with his powers. That is why this MV has so many references to spotlights and shadows and light and dark and why you see the shadow of lamps with bare light bulbs, and why it's in black and white, etc. It all has to do with the fact that he is a member of EXO and he can control light. Hence, one reason why the album this song is on is called City Lights, which obviously also references his power. LOL As with almost everything EXO does, the red light is thought to represent the Red Force and blue represents EXO. So the scenes that are red could be instances where the Red Force is in control and the scenes in blue are when Baekhyun has the upper hand. Also take note of the giant map he is looking at hanging on the wall in this MV. When you eventually get to watch EXO-CBX's MV for their song "Horololo," you will see what many think is that same map hanging on the wall in the office CBX are in the "Horololo" MV. Everything EXO does is connected the group's concept and storyline. This song and MV is an example of how even EXO's solo projects are connected to their storyline -- even as soloists, they can't escape the fact that they are members of EXO. So, "UN Village" and City Lights is supposed to have an evening theme and "Candy" and Delight, his follow up song and album, is supposed to be daytime/daylight. It all is meant to play off of each other. :D The two albums are as different as night and day.

I’m so happy to see him with his first solo debut album finally even with him still being part of EXO, the teasers alone were slaying me and now he’s killing me in every scene with his voice & visuals. From what I get from the lyrics, it seems like a love song to his fans which is more of a invitation for EXOLs to come hangout with him in his hometown #BAEKHYUN #UNVILLAGE #EXO

UN Village is a trendy area in Hannam-dong, a neighborhood in Seoul. Expensive to live there, lots of bars, restaurants, boutiques. And it is on a hill, so I guess the views are romantic. Apparently celebrities can get some degree of privacy there, tho probably still not much, considering how crazy fans are.
