What is Cupolex?
Cupolex is a patented structural dome concrete slab system made from recycled non-toxic Polypropylene. Each dome inter-connects to create a self-supporting structure acting as permanent form work, as an alternative to the Waffle slab polystyrene system and/or hard fill in your concrete slab (refer to your builder for information on these options). Not only does Cupolex provide a barrier and reduce potential for rising damp with no capillary action possible, but it is also cost effective.

No chairs? Doesn't this affect strength of the slab? How is the steel doing its job if it's not encased in concrete? Does it leave the steel exposed to moisture/rust? I think it looks like a great system but would be hesitant not using chairs.

Hello, thank you for your comment. Due to the curved or arch design of the Cupolex domes allowing the system to maximise the concretes strength - just like a bridge is also an arch shape. This curve shape means that the slab thickness above the domes will vary. At the top of the dome, the mesh does sit directly on the product, however, only for one cross wire. Concrete slurry does also get underneath the mesh. At this same area, you have the central cone of the dome that filled with concrete all the way down to the plastic membrane at subgrade. This cone and curved gives the system is high point load strength which is approx. 6 times that require by Australian standards. Regarding moisture or rust, even using the smaller 260mm high domes, the moisture from the subgrade is 260mm from this mesh location. The moisture not only has to get through the plastic membrane but now also through or around the thick recyclable plastic of the Cupolex. To date in Australia, there has been no failures of a Cupolex slab.
