One other thing you need to touch on is grip conditions. weak vs strong grip plays a key factor in wrist conditions at the top.

discovered im a natural with the bowed grip at the top through the bottom. IT FIXED MY SLICE. If you can turn hard and keep your hands in front of you I recommend trying bowed, but make sure you use a weak grip or you will discover a new left shot lol.

A nice explanation of how the wrists can work without any bias towards either cupped or bowed, whereas most online tutorials tend to favour a flat to bowed left wrist. Of course, how your wrists work will partly depend on your grip i.e. weak or strong and how much shaft lean you have at address. I have been working on keeping a slight cupping into the first part of the takeaway and then rotating the forearms in the latter part of the swing to flatten the left wrist aka Max Homa - with mixed results up to this point in time.

Great explanation! I notice when I cupp the ball goes further. When I bow my 7i it goes 150. When I cupp it, it goes 170 to 180 with a bit of a draw.

Yes something that’s quite common due to how the release changes which can increase the speed and make the loft become more effective 👍🏽

When i was a hacker,due to my neutral grip i was slightly cupped at address, i kept this for to long in the backswing due to an obsession golfers have who start late in golf,of keeping the club square,or dead armed 1 piece takeaway etc to hit the ball straight! Now im down to 5 hcp,amongst other improvements.mainly the exact opposite of stuff i was told when i first started! I use a right hand/sided takeaway and feel my left hand slightly flattening/rolling in response, leading to far more arm structure at the top with a soft but solid and much wider right arm and effortless ball striking!

Obviously good technique helps But to regularly break 80 it is nowhere near as important as having good golf related hand eye co-ordination and being able to chip and putt! No beginner/hacker ever works on golf related coordination skill drills Every good golfer that ever lived can bounce a ball on a wedge,Trey can,i learnt to and i bet every golfer at your club less than 5 hcp can

Very much enjoyed the video. One question I have is would you say that for majority of ameteurs, cupped wrists could cause slices while bowed could cause hooks? I wasn’t surprised your cupped drew and bowed faded but is that because you’re very good at neutralizing it at impact?
@nathanperry9593 Жыл бұрын
Ok I like this video. What does a person with a strong grip/ cupped at the top do on the downswing? Everything on KZbin says bow on the downswing. Is that what you’re supposed to do?
@TreyNiven Жыл бұрын
If you bowed it with a strong grip on the downswing the face would close so it depends on your typical miss and what your intended ball flight is👍🏽

Exactly, all too often when we make an adjustment to address/fix one problem, we then need to tweak a compensating adjustment we've made elsewhere.

Hey, Does the strength or weakness of grip effect match ups too?
@TreyNiven Жыл бұрын
100% yes, look at Webb Simpson and Cameron Smith. Very similar grip styles but completely different p4s and match ups needed.

3:25 spot on. I recently started playing golf again after a few yrs break. My local pro put me into this (for me) new bowed wrist position without much explanation, and I just keep on pulling them left. But I didn’t know about the importance of the body rotation to make this work. Guess I’d rather go back to a more neutral wrist position that doesn’t require me to turn like Rory :)
@TreyNiven Жыл бұрын
Hey! 100% i would be looking to see if that wrist/clubface style match up to your body action… if not then try a more cupped style 😁 never change anything for the sake of it and always ask questions!

Mayhap I'm wrong, cause this is just "feel," but with bowed wrists I feel like I can use more POWER from my turn/ground, and it's less from hands/shoulders.

@Reloadeez6 ай бұрын
How strong are weak your trailing arm grip is will affect the position of the lead arm wrist a lot. Go look at Dustin Johnson, someone a lot of people will say has a really strong grip. But if you look closely his lead arm grip isn't actually very strong, it's neutral to a tad strong, his trailing arm grip is extremely strong, almost under the club. It's why he's so bowed at the top. Now go look at Rory McIlroy, very strong lead hand grip, neutral trailing arm grip, causing him to be flat or sometimes slightly cupped with the lead arm wrist at the top.

so i play with a strong grip. do i need to more rotation to square the club face? if my club face is shut at the top, how do i get it to an ideal impact neutral club face position without hitting it way left and low? guess also getting the trail elbow back in front of body shallows and opens clubface more correct?
@glenjones80111 ай бұрын
Try a flatter swing (i.e. not as steep as normal). That's how Paul Azinger, who had a very strong grip, was able to hit it straight and even play a fade.
@yasi487711 ай бұрын
I have long arms. I can smash my wife's shorter ladies driver dead straight and long but my own driver can go left or right and short. Long arm players such as Matt Kuchar, Paul Azinger and possibly Hubert Green grip it short and swing short. Should I do that or cut my club lengths down?
