It is seldom acknowledged that the Brahmin community viewed MS as a brahmin. She wore her saree in the brahmin style 'Madisaru'. Indeed, culturally she was a brahmin. Her 'inter-caste' origin or the twists and turns of her personal life never bothered brahmins from accepting her as a brahmin. MS Amma cut the LP of Venkateswara Suprabatham in the year 1963. During that year she was made as Asthana Vidwan of TTD; but she politely declined that coveted title, saying that Ariyakudi and other senior Vidwans have not received that title. Therefore it is not liking to her to receive it since she is very much junior to them. Then TTD conviced her that they are making Ariyakudi and other senior stalwarts as Asthana Vidwans of TTD. Then only she accepted that title of TTD. That shows MS Amma's humility; even though she is unquestionable Queen of Carnatic Music.
