Nice work gents, I’ve ordered that exact model and colour….can’t wait! I had a look at the Kona N and Tiguan R, but the Kona N just didn’t compare on interior finish nor as a daily performance driver. The Tiguan R was nice but for about the same package as the VZx I had to hand over 80k…..and wait forever for one.

You’ve chosen well. I stuffed up the price of the Kona but you obviously thought the extra $12k was worth it? One of my comments I didn’t include was that it feels like 20k+ more car

Same here, I went for the Launch Edition with the Brembos & Graphene Grey paint. Mine is now apparently at the dealers, just arranging pickup date, can't come soon enough. Along with the Tiguan R and Kona N I also looked at Audi SQ2 and T-Roc R as well, both of those have the slightly older but I suspect more functional dash with seperate climate controls rather than everything through the screen. Normal DSG gear lever that you can use to change gears is also better than the stubby little lever in the newer VWs. SQ2 costs $5k- 10K more depending on options, the T-Roc works out to be almost identically priced on road compared to standard VZx, however supply is a big issue and I much prefer the styling of the Formentor and the fact you probably won't see as many on the road. Fy 2023 spec cars apparently have the 360 degree camera, missing on the earlier cars, for those happy to wait.

I've had one for months now and there is a manual solution. Once you're in you select your drive mode say Cupra mode you can then additional use the console gear selector to move it into either auto or manual select. There is a significant difference for each drive mode when you do that. The gearbox is then very responsive.

I have driven that car and it is a great combination of comfortable when you have the wife on board and sporty when you are driving alone. I just need Olly at Robina to have a trip to Spain to hurry them up with mine. Good job Guy and Dalton

Probably now since this review I’d lean towards the Hyundai. The Cupra was a good thing but the early excitement for the brand in Australia seems to have warn off

NIce work. Tested one and liked the mix of sporty in Cupra mode, and relaxed in comfort mode. Now need to decide between this or an i30 sedan N premium, Kona N was too small (can't fit anyone behind my driving position) and felt the interior wasn't befitting of a $57k car.

If compare fwd kona vs fwd cupra formentor be kona win fwd vs awd no fair now awd is better but both is from racing track brands both have best stability flat but but you cant compare this awd is beast is use haldex gen system antispin the best in the world never spin wheel send torque front 32%-68% rear best wsy equal send awd like alpina same but if be front both kona n best is very good suv both is my favorite.

Thanks for the review guys. I found it very informative. How do you stack the handling of this compared to a WRX ? I know it's a bit of like apple and oranges but I feel like I'm growing out of my G3 WRX now.

Hi. I don't think you would be dissapointed with the handling. My best reference is earlier WRXs I owned an early model WRX and it was terrible handling until I did coil overs, rear bar and wheels but this Formentor is miles ahead out of the box. I suppose that's what 20 years of development does.

My Audi S3 unfortunately does the same thing with the gearbox… you can’t short-shift and then use the torque of the turbo engine in a higher gear- without the car overriding and punching it down to a lower gear.

Kona N isnt 64k. My Premium was on road for 56k. So is the formentor worth 13K more is the question? Nice review btw.

Yeh might have stuffed up there I think I was quoted 54k. Good questing is it worth it. Maybe. Tough call

Yeah I wondered where he got that price from. Nit picking but Premium is now $56934K drive away so call it $57K, maybe been a slight price rise? Great car and price and a bit more hard core to boot, but I wanted awd, a bit more space & exclusivity, plus I've owned GTIs and Tiguan previously so ultimately went for the Formentor.

ok, just for all the DSG haters or people who don't know... small light block, very high pressure turbo, LSPI. you will get bottom ends grenading trying to lug 24psi at 1800 rpm.. Its silly. The software is saying 'wow, you're silly' i will put it down a gear for you. You're welcome

No way is it worth 10k-13k more than a Kona N 😂 Over priced European parts and serving too. People complaining about Kona N interior too, go sit in an i30 hatch which actually costs more than the Kona and then tell me which interior is better. Sedan is ugly so don’t even go there. Not to mention having to explain to friends and family you drive a ‘Cupra’ a sub brand of Seat every Christmas lunch would get irritating fast.

Check out my Kona N review. I loved it. I own an i30N also love that too. Imagine explaining a Cupra is a Seat that is in fact a VW Lol

@@GuysGarage ahh yes forgot it’s just a VAG group car 😂 I had an i30N DCT on order for 4 months and still hadn’t even been built. Someone cancelled their Kona N order and they asked me if I wanted it, I said give me 24 hours. Watched your Kona Vid and was sold. Took it the next day ✌🏻 keep giving the Kona love! Thanks Guy
