Abode, domicile, residence etc. all work to reduce repetition and add comedic effect. If you think about it the holocaust thing really was a monstrous act of ignorance. Few items are more loaded with emotions and pain. I was at several KZ in Germany and the mountains of shoes, dolls, it is so horrific and a testament to what we can be when we are not careful that it feels like sacrilege even touching it.
