Fun Fact: The actor who plays "Mr Takahashi" played the role of Dana in The Car Salesman episode where Larry David was selling cars. Dana asked Larry about the differences between the "GT" and "GTS" to which Larry responds, "The GTS is guaranteed tremendous safety." I've been watching Curb every season, every single episode, went to the Paley Center discussion when Bob Einstein was still alive, I own all of the DVDs that are out... I think it behooves Larry to actually do a proper, but hilarious send-off for the show favorites who've died, because everyone's so up in age, as they pass it would be awesome if they're PROPERLY, Hilariously memorialized by the comic genius that Larry has and HONESTLY I think they would've appreciated it... Like Bob Einstein/ Marty Funkhauser and Shelley Berman/ Larry's dad.

Obviously, you're Clueless about how he functions. Some great examples of this is how he did the Seinfeld Reunion, bringing back Cheryl, additional seasons of Curb even though he wanted to retire, or things like continuity when he had Wayne Knight revoice an episode of Seinfeld when he was going to jump... So, Larry David is Not the type of guy that needs to proclaim, or wear it on his sleeve, or bark it out loud when he does things "for fans", because pure fans SEE when he does things for all of us. 🤷🏾‍♂️ you're not a fan, so you wouldn't know that.🖕🏾

Splaination: Larry's pronunciation of the phrase is not the issue. Native speakers might well have some notes for the other actors as well. By saying irrashaimase to the guests, Larry may be causing confusion as to whether he is somehow affiliated with the restaurant, as the meaning is roughly "welcome to OUR business", though in an LA context people probably just assume some goofball is acting up.

I used to teach English to a Japanese professor, because his Dutch students had a hard time understanding him. It's no coincidence that, of all the things Larry could have taken from a hotel and forgotten in a Japanese restaurant, they picked an umbrella. That's a very difficult word for a Japanes speaker to get right. It was funny how the Japanese in this scene all pretty much got the pronunciation exactly right when calm, but started flipping their R's and L's as they got more upset.
