@dannytallmage2409it’s not like Larry’s not a pretty great actor too, it’s just Jason Alexander is a GREAT actor defined by this role. But look at curb, practically the entire show’s dialogue is completely improvised, they go into scenes with a rough outline of what they’re supposed to do and then improvise the lines from there. It’s why its so great after all, all those arguments (especially between Susie and Larry) seem completely unscripted because they are.
@Pantsinabucket
@Pantsinabucket Жыл бұрын
@dannytallmage2409 ay man just watch more curb and you’ll see he’s pretty fucking awesome at playing a fictionalized version of himself. I’d say Larry David is a decent actor but that’s definitely a matter of opinion and I’ll agree he isn’t great at playing someone who isn’t “himself”. However, he’s definitely a top-tier writer for sitcoms and knows how to adapt the regular human experience to the screen in a way most writers/producers can’t.
@Kaylbee
@Kaylbee Жыл бұрын
@@Pantsinabucket Danny's point is that Larry David has a very limited range, and particularly that is a role he wrote which plays up to his acting ability. His ability to improv lines up with his ability to write and do improv. That's not the same as acting.
@webkid4567
@webkid4567 Жыл бұрын
@Danny Tallmage Someone who "plays themselves" is not the definition of a bad actor. You're just buying into the fundamental misunderstanding a lot of ignorant people have that acting is just pretending to be someone else. That's almost always the opposite of what actors do, even the ones who aren't method actors. When you're acting you are doing your best to feel the emotions of the character or at the very least portray them believably (which usually requires feeling it at least a little anyway). Someone who "plays themselves in every role" is just someone who is good at playing a more specific type of character and is cast for that character often, just for example. Just saying I'm sure Larry wouldn't consider himself a great actor, but he's not a bad actor. He's just good at portraying a character that is a fictionalized version of him and is like him in many ways. If he was a bad actor, you wouldn't believe the scene or the stories enough to be immersed and you'd be taken out of it. A good actor is believable as a character, that's all it is.

I never understood why Michael won three Emmys and Jason won none. There's no doubting Michael's intensity and his physical comedy abilities, but Jason's George is a character so rich and layered, way more nuanced than Kramer, who is full-blown kook. George is a man desperately clinging to life despite diminishing returns. What makes George a deeper character and one that has stood the test of time in the public's psyche is that he is more like us, full of neuroses, anxieties and insecurities. Kramer is pure theatrical construction, you start with a man and add broad brush strokes of physicality and self-belief. George is a man whose layers are stripped off, and in the process he becomes just redeemable enough for us to have some affection for him.

The thing that makes George, is that when he gets mad, he pushes out so much air in the first part of the sentence he's practically out of breath at the end of the sentence, so the end sounds REALLY desperate! That's one of the things that makes George, George. He'd rather get angry, than breathe.

I'm watching a featurette about a show that shows a fictional Larry David played by the real Larry David. On that show, the Larry David character is stepping in to play a character based on the real Larry David because, in the show, the Larry David character had a falling out with the Jason Alexander character, played by Jason Alexander. To play the character of George Costanza, the actor Larry David gets coaching from the actor Jason Alexander on how to play the character of George Costanza so that we can watch a faithful portrayal by the actor Larry David playing Larry David playing George Costanza. The character George Costanza, of course, is based on the actor Larry David. I'm not sure if I'm real or not at this point.

Jason's George stands as one of the great TV characters of all time. With his mixture of volatility and insecurity he is the centre of most Seinfeld episodes. And what's really scary, it that 80% of the time I agree with the George position - like on the thanks for the Big Salad. Luv ya, Jason.

Lol if she just handed somebody a bag then why did she care so much that George told Elaine he paid for it? That’s more weird in my opinion. She’s dwelling on it too. @@FandomEditsTrooper yes exactly she was not honorable in this exchange either. I certainly would have told Elaine that George bought it n I would never take credit for it.
