My headcannon is that Adam' semblance allows for him to trap energy inside his sword, but leaves him weak. Maybe when he uses his semblance, he sacrifices his aura. This means that theoretically, if his sword has stored up enough, a punch to the face could hurt him pretty bad. There isn't really a flas because when he's put in a bad spot, he can use his semblance and unleash that kickass cut, giving him his aura back
