The drums are an obtuse riff themselves, the baseline is iconic on its own, and the guitar is awesome. If you isolated any of the parts by itself and played it, any casual cure fan could instantly recognize it. It’s that amazing.
@zoeherriot2 жыл бұрын
Robert is the master of layering interesting melodies and parts, each one has it's space, each one has it's time to breathe, and it's amazing that so many of their songs are so long - and have so few chords - and yet are so damn interesting. Fascination street has no change for the entirety of the song in the bass line, and yet it stays compelling and the song builds and actually feels like it goes somewhere. Genius.
@brucebergdahl Жыл бұрын
@@zoeherriot I agree 100% with you, and the above comment. I'll add that if you listen carefully, there is a whole different melody on the backup guitar (for lack of a better term), and it's layered over the keyboard. They are all different, bet they all compliment each other, and each also has an opening where they "solo" at times. Brilliant!
@zoeherriot Жыл бұрын
@@brucebergdahl Yeah, his arrangements are what makes the songs shine. I've always found the way he combines different melodies that sometimes lead into each other, or resolve each other to be fascinating.

For 30 yrs Ive thought this band was so underrated even though they were actually really popular back then. This song in particular shows just how detailed and unique they were. The bassist is just thumping away on the rhythm. His vocals are great as usual. The guitarist is such an original sound and he nails it on many songs. His guitaring sounds like you are in a dream.. or nightmare. lol The drummer flat kills it with a cool ass bass line. That little syncopated hand work between the hi hat and snare is so detailed and involved. Great song. Great group.

Then about 2 years ago I watched the Glastonbury Live Show on TV with DAD! Yes I was educated and went to see them. Not gonna lie I cried when they played this and it was easily a 3 hour gig which I have never experienced. I just stood there with eyes closed most of the time in a daze and dream state. Really special moment in my life . I HAVE SEEN THE CURE ! Also need to add that whoever is their Sound Engineer is a gifted MF because the drums on this etc as so perfect.

Especially when we’re powering through this pandemic! SONG OF THE DAY- And what’s currently “On-Shuffle” 🔀 at our GEN-X/TOTALLY EIGHTIES Revolving KZbin project on for Trinity ROCKS Music-Desert Sage Arizona FASCINATION STREET 1989 Wiki song facts: ‘Fascination Street" is a 1989 North-American-only single by the English rock band The Cure from their album Disintegration. Their American record company refused the band's original choice "Lullaby" as the first single (it was the lead single in the UK and was released in the U.S. later) and used "Fascination Street" instead. The song is notable for its extended bass introduction. The song became the band's first number-one single on Billboard's then-newly created Modern Rock Tracks chart, where it stayed on top for seven weeks. An extended mix was also produced, notable in which the lyrics begin after a 4:00 instrumental intro.
