Query about the soot-water for boils... I reckon you'd be burning peat in your stoves then? Or wood, and if it were wood which were more common for firewood thereabouts?

I'm in Belfast we would use raw potatoes for warts on kids, you'd then bury the potato in the garden.. The hair was cut on the Cross off a donkeys back for all chest infections, whopping cough, asthma etc.
