Curing Mica Disease on a Stromberg Baby Grand 48A11

An easy radio to get going, just had to spend a bit of time looking for a bad mica cap
I did find the schematic at last.

Excellent job jumpering the bad cap inside with one outside. This sometimes actually works .

Nice radio, Frank. That 6BM8 tube provides a good output. I had a 1965 Radio Shack reel to reel and had it hooked to an 8" speaker. It sounded quite good. You're lucky the SMD did not occur in the IF cans. I'm surprised the cans aren't remanufactured by anyone yet.

Hey John, yes the 6BM8 is a good output valve. Yeah, I don;t believe anyone produces cans. I did see a video ages ago where someone cobbled one together using modern parts that looked like the tiny if cans in transistor radios. Old IF cans seem to be in abundance though I have quite a few from stripping old chassis and they test fine

Good find Frank on the mica cap! I think this was the first time I’ve seen an Aussie radio with the dial on the knob, no dial cord could be a good thing, nice radio.
