Uniqueness: How many 18 year cask strength Islay aged in Sherry is available for about $200? This is basically the only one. Easy 9

See the “problem” is the standard 10 is absolutely fantastic. I’ll probably never taste this 18 and maybe that’s my loss but I’ll console myself with two bottles of 10 and a steak dinner for that price
@steveno7058Ай бұрын
The 18 is a different animal compared to the 10. Don’t get me wrong. The 10 is a great value. But the 18 has the elegance of a well aged Scotch and much more Sherry influence.

Nice shirt, Dutch! 🤘

I love Port Charlotte, and I love the bottle. The embossing on the back is aces. The ten yr. is more my budget, but maybe I'll splurge if I see this in the wild.

The 10 is a regular for me. Such a great value for the quality.

Love their 10 year. Want to try the new 18 year.

Picked this up a few months ago and haven't opened it yet, looking forward to digging into it

I bought the Laddy 18 instead of this and have been kicking myself for it.

Aroma: why would a heavily peated sherry bomb have floral on the nose?

As much as I'd LOVE to try this, I think I'd rather grab another cask exploration like the PMC-01 which is easily one of my fav pours from them right now
@KakoGuzmanMusicАй бұрын
I have both, and as much as I love the 18, I love the PMC more. I also like most Octomore more than the 18. The 18 is amazing, but the lactic note is off the chart, which makes it a bit unbalanced.
@rivenbeefАй бұрын
@@KakoGuzmanMusicboth are fantastic, I prefer the 18 though. More refined and has more depth to my palate. Can’t go wrong with either!

Did a Bruichladdich Distillery tasting in Glendale, CA. Best PC18, BA11.1 B30, Islay Barley, PC10, B18! Great nite! Going Octomore 15.3 vs 8.3 this weekend. Smoke house!

I would go with Dillon on aesthetics and value.

How does this compare to the 10 year? I tried the 10 and was very disappointed; it was more "tire fire" and less "smoldering camp fire in a damp forest" that I like and experience with Ardbeg.
@WhskAZCLАй бұрын
Is the 18 using mainland peat or Port Ellen's as the other guys in Islay? I heard time ago that PC10 uses mainland
@KakoGuzmanMusicАй бұрын
Port Charlotte doesn't use Port Ellen's peated barley at all - all PC and Octomore get their barley peated at the mainland. For the releases that use Islay barley, they ship the barley to the mainland to be peated and bring it back.

Value: Please name me another cask strength 18 year Islay Sherry for $200? This is the only one. 3 is the minimum
@CuriosityPublicАй бұрын
definitely something to consider. we do also include availability in our value analysis - which is tricky for this release.
@leeknowlton7303Ай бұрын
You may have answered this in the past, but why do you never add water to the high proof drams? Are you just reviewing it as it was presented?
@CuriosityPublicАй бұрын
we like to review it as it is presented. We will occasionally try it with some water, but rarely.
@ironmantranАй бұрын
u r too easily brain-washed by the industry : 18 yo for 200 pops is madness ! (but good review !)

Even before COVID, before the Trump tariffs, before the most recent boom... ~late 2010s, $10/year for cask strength Scotch was the benchmark. That puts the baseline expectation at 180, and considering the state of inflation and the changing whisky market since 2018, 200 isn't wildly out of line. It's a lot less crazy than Bunnahabhain asking $350 for their 46.3% 18yo...
@steveno7058Ай бұрын
Its called reality. This isn’t 2012 anymore. Please name me another 18 year cask strength Islay at cask strength for less than $200
