Fun fact about cooperation in birds. Magpie's will adopt their younger siblings if something happens to the parents. They're social creatures and will visit the nesting territory of their parents throughout their lives. And if they find unattended young they'll move into the nest and raise them. I just thought that was neat

@Cotif11 After finishing the whole video I must agree. Some jokes landed and I liked the switching back between evolution and altruism, but after some time it didn't really go anywhere. And the rest was quite dire. Sizeble amounts of cringe where felt that's for sure

I witnessed bird altruism just a few months ago, my cat caught a magpie in the garden and I was watching it playing and chasing it around outside when a big group of crows started flying above and dropping sticks near the cat, I could hear sticks hitting the roof too. Never seen anything like that before and I’m pretty sure I sound crazy when I tell people about it 😂

That was magnificent. I've been consuming lots of media lately, yet very few are enlightening enough to make me just think about life in this manner. As much as i miss the spec evo videos and ecosystems in media videos these life deep dives are really profound. Its one thing to view life in an ecosystem but another to ask why

7:23 saying this theory is ascribing “undo meaning to the inanimate” is a perfect example of why it may be true. Somehow we managed to develop really big brains even though the concept of such a thing didn’t exist in the animal kingdom. A property of entropy is energy always takes the past of least resistance, which means in our world governed by entropy things that are “useful” are subject to appear spontaneously to allow energy to take an easier path. For example, when we shine light through a medium it changes the path to that with the least resistance, in a way the flow of light “pulls” this path into existence through the conservation of energy. Similarly, things that are useful evolutionarily are “pulled” into existence through the process of evolution. Nothing that does exist has always existed, but it is created through the need to conserve energy. Similarly, pattern, thoughts, and memetic or symbolic imagery, without having a will of its own, is “pulled” into existence through the process of our brains using the same path of least energy, creating the most efficient thoughts. Everything is affected by this process, and evolution just happens to be the most magnificent example. If we watched the whole process collapsed over time it would look like a dense balls of energy diffusing and mutating until its geodesic is maximized.

So...we are basically making things dumber for our selves to *save energy* ?
@уронить9 күн бұрын
@ simplifying complex topics allows for greater levels of abstraction, and more efficient ways of creating complex ideas. Throughout human development we’ve used memetic imagery to complex things in a simple manner. As a result our ability to build more robust models and derive deeper meaning has evolved.
@miadmahshidi81019 күн бұрын
@@уронить i...guess, but all im gonna say is if we evolved bigger brains we might as well use them for somethin
@уронить9 күн бұрын
@@miadmahshidi8101 you can use your brain however you want to. It’s a wonder of evolution, capable of rewriting its pathways to adapt to any situation. The true magic of the human brain is how little it is limited by.
