Watching UK programs on Australian TV in the 70s and 80s you’d notice the ITV company idents in addition to the BBC - Thames (World at War, Minder, Rumpole), LWT (Upstairs Downstairs), Yorkshire (Whicker’s World) and Central (Spitting Image). The one Anglia program I remember with the Silver Knight was Survival.
@davidlewis5681 Жыл бұрын
They were a middle-sized ITV company that did surprisingly well considering that most of their patch was rural. They produced a lot of shows for the network, but I think Survival was their only major export.
@brucedanton3669 Жыл бұрын
@@davidlewis5681 Yes I guess you are of course right there then too. Anglia was then a middle-sized ITV company, although they did border onto some of the major ones too-such as ATV/Central; Thames; LWT; and Yorkshire anyway. Also yes Survival was their long running wildlife series, which well too competed with the output of BBC Bristol on the BBC's channels really so too.

My GP centre has the Anglia theme as their 'on hold' tune! They recently changed it after years of Vivaldi! The first time I heard it whilst on hold I was thrown into disarray & my memory all discombobulated, in a good way 😉, happy memories hitting me left right & centre 🙂. By the time they actually answered the damn phone I was all emo 😅.

This was presumably once TV-am had ended and so the ITV companies then started up. Anglia with its famous knight ident so too. Then it was the schools series of course as it was term time then at the time so too. Thank you!
@davidlewis5681 Жыл бұрын
Once ITV had a permanent daytime schedule, the startup sequences gradually gave way to regional news bulletins to fill the slot between TV-am finishing at 0925 and the daytime schedule at 0930.

@@davidlewis5681 Yes of course I am sure too indeed. I guess from Autumn 1987 or so onwards when there were no more schools on ITV-having then moved to Channel 4 of course. So yes of course that would be right then so too.

As it was then too of course before TV-am started in February 1983 at the time. However, ITV's usual start time of 9.30am then continued, so of course these intros remained for a while, until they ended sometime later on then too.

Unfortunately I live nearer to the Belmont Transmitter so people near me had their regional stations switched from Anglia to Yorkshire Television. Most people were mad, I can see why!
@CuriousBritishTelly4 жыл бұрын
I lived in Norfolk and, for reasons unknown to me, we used to get a much better signal from Belmont. Therefore, I grew up watching Yorkshire instead of Anglia which was only an hour down the road.

Strikes me as a strange startup. That Comic Sans wannabe on the IBA card seems weird and less professional... The Ident itself is not like any other ident I've seen... On one hand sticking a model on a lazy susan seems kinda cheap... Yet it works, it seems classy (and so does the music). The Word art like effect on the time card makes me think some 1990s office worker did that... Can't decide if I like it yet.
@chriswathen96128 ай бұрын
The Anglia logo on the IBA card looks correct to the ident to me (or at least close enough that no one would notice). The colour startup version of the Anglia ident did look rather cheap - the previous B&W version had different lighting effects and camera panning rather than just plonking a model on a turntable, but on the other hand it became iconic and lasted them a long time. Re. the 'wordart like effect' on the schedule slide, Anglia themselves were aware of how old fashioned their presentation had become and did gradually start moving away from using the knight on presentation as the 80's wore on. By the final months before the 1988 rebrand it was literally just the ident, the clock and the production slide left.
